  • EP035 | How small, brave choices can make a big difference, with Suzi Lawrence
    2025/08/14
    In this episode:

I’m joined by the wonderful Suzi Lawrence who is a former client, inspiring human and all-round wise owl. She comes to share her refreshingly honest story of how small, brave choices helped her reclaim her spark, confidence, and a sense of work-life happiness.

After spending 17 years with the same organisation and climbing the ranks to Managing Director of Talent, Suzi found herself feeling stuck, undervalued, and completely misaligned with the environment around her.

Rather than diving headfirst into a huge, risky career overhaul, she worked with me to gently re-centre herself, clarify what mattered most, and explore new options on her own terms.

It’s a powerful story of how Suzi made meaningful changes to her career path based on her values and interests, WITHOUT the need for a full-blown career change.

I think you’ll love this one so come join us!

    - - -

    𝗚𝗨𝗘𝗦𝗧 𝗕𝗜𝗢:

Suzi Lawrence began her career in the wonderfully niche world of built environment communications working client-side and quickly rising through the ranks, and finding her true passion in supporting the people around her. She evolved into becoming the Client Services Director, where she could blend her strategic insight with her natural people skills.

Eventually, Suzi made the leap to focus entirely on people, taking on leadership of the agency’s Talent function. This move marked a turning point and resulted in her leaving the organisation she had grown up in professionally, a move bringing both challenge and opportunity. It also gave her the space to realise that her passion for helping others thrive could be something with purpose too.

In recent years, Suzi has brought that purpose to life through maternity cover roles in the voluntary sector, where she’s found not only fulfilment but a deep sense of alignment between her values and her work. Volunteering has also become a meaningful part of her life, offering new ways to give back and grow.

    𝗔𝗟𝗜𝗦𝗢𝗡 𝗢’𝗟𝗘𝗔𝗥𝗬 𝗕𝗜𝗢:

Alison is a highly experienced, certified life and career coach and is an active ideal life advocate.

She’s the founder and designer of the Work Wonderland™ process, her proprietary model that helps people make career and life choices that truly align with their values, strengths, passions, skills and life goals.

Alison hails from a high-paced, London-based corporate background, working for more than 20 years in the field of PR and Communications, until she made her own radical transition to her ideal life, living and working from a remote mountainside in Wales.

Today she focusses her life coaching on supporting professionally successful people in making career changes that facilitate transformational life change.

When Alison is not working, you can find her outdoors - walking beaches at the crack of dawn; experimenting with the universe and consciousness; trying her hand at paragliding; and delighting in the magic of the superhero’s quest. She is also Marvel movie obsessed.

  • EP032 | The Surprising Ripple Effect of Gratitude, with Alison O'Leary
    2025/05/23
    In this episode:

I’m get into the subject of gratitude.

Now, before you roll your eyes because this is something we’ve all heard of before and we know we’re supposed to do more of it (!), what I’m delving into here isn’t just the bog standard “this is why gratitude is good for you and why you should do it” argument.

There’s actually a fascinating result of gratitude practices that isn’t really talked about much, and I want to bring it alive because it can have a huge impact on the number of good things happening to and for you in your life.

The basis for this is that gratitude makes us:

    …more OPEN to opportunities,

    …helps create MORE opportunities, and

…makes us more likely to ACT on those opportunities.

    Intrigued? Great.

Come join me on this short, but useful episode!

A few years ago, Matt gave a TEDx talk where he presented 12 million data points in happiness, from 1 million people in over 100 countries. Safe to say - what this man doesn’t know about happiness, particularly in a work context, is probably not worth knowing!

In our conversation we dig into what The Happiness Index is all about, and we talk through what the latest learnings are around happiness and engagement and what really drives us in these areas.

We also get into something called The Super Happiness Suit, and talk about whether happiness at work is different from happiness in our personal lives. Do we have separate drivers for those areas of our lives, or are there strong commonalities?

    Come join us!

  • EP030 | The secret to nurturing curiosity and creative thinking, with Paul Spiers
    2025/03/27
    In this episode:

I have invited my friend, Paul Spiers, back to talk about the subject of creativity.

When it comes to figuring out the life and career changes that will make us feel the happiest, most fulfilled and most alive, we need to be creative. We need to be able to free our minds up to think beyond our current set up and experience, and really allow ourselves to imagine what could be possible.

Sometimes that can be really hard to do, especially if you’re someone who feels trapped by your current circumstances, or weighed down by reality, or potentially deem yourself an uncreative person. All of this kills inspiration and ideas, making it impossible to conjure up your best life, which means you can’t then go after it.

Paul is a thought leader when it comes to the subject of creativity (although he’ll probably laugh at me using that description!) He’s genuinely one of the smartest and most creative people I know and that I’ve ever worked with.

Come join us as I pick his brains with questions like:

How can we ignite our curiosity?

How do we get into a creative zone?

Are there environmental factors that make a difference?

What do we do if we are not a naturally creative person? Then what?

    - - -

    𝗚𝗨𝗘𝗦𝗧 𝗕𝗜𝗢:

A serial entrepreneur, Paul Spiers is the founder of The New P&L® Institute and host of the internationally respected top 5% podcast series, The New P&L® – Principles & Leadership in Business.

He is a speaker, trainer and consultant, and works at the intersection of leadership, culture, people and purpose. A naturally creative storyteller, he’s a highly engaging and inspiring speaker, panel moderator and roundtable facilitator.

Paul delivers keynotes and workshops filled with insightful and thought-provoking observations and offers practical examples of how to apply the true power of purpose, creativity, principles and leadership in business.

He helps senior leaders, employees and companies better prepare for the more complex Future of Work by advising on how they can transform and align their leadership, vision, strategy and culture to elevate business performance.

  • EP029 | 7 Types of Rest That Unlock Your Happiness Secret, with Alison O’Leary
    2025/02/27
    In this episode:

I delve into the subject of REST. It’s a really interesting topic to talk about because I’m not just talking about sleep here. Oh no!

In fact, there are seven different types of rest that we all need to feel fully alive and completely ourselves.

I want to get into this subject because so many people I work with, and know personally, are struggling with fatigue.

Whether it’s a general malaise, a persistent level of tiredness that just won’t leave, or full-on burnout, it can make it really hard to figure out what happiness looks like, and what you want from a work and lifestyle point of view, if you’re just feeling exhausted.

So, in this episode, I’m going to get into the ins and outs of rest, covering the seven different types first introduced by Dr Saundra Dalton-Smith. I’m hoping this will help you to think about what you might potentially need more of, and the kind of actions you can take to top it up.

Because then, once you are fully tapped into all the different types of rest, you’ll be in the very best position to identify what makes you happy, so that you can go after it.

You ready? Great, come and join me!

  • EP028 | The Three P's for Self-Employment Success, with Derek Britton
    2025/01/30
    In this episode:

I speak to my wonderful former client and all-round excellent human being, Derek Britton.

Derek and I originally worked together years ago when he was a marketeer at a B2B software firm that I was doing PR for, and then last year he became a coaching client after becoming a casualty of the ongoing tech industry layoffs.

With three decades of in-house experience across the marketing and sales enablement mix, Derek’s initial assumption was that he should seek a similar corporate role, but something was nagging at him about that idea. So, he hired me to help him think through what he really wanted.

It is now 12 months later, and Derek has just completed his first year running his own B2B tech marketing consultancy.

In this episode I invite Derek to share with you how he made the choice to work for himself; and how he recognised and overcame the fear associated with this journey into the unknown.

If you listen, you’ll also hear us walk through the top three strengths that he believes have been instrumental in helping him to get his new business off the ground with real success. Some great, real-life insights in this one – come join us!

Derek Britton is an experienced leader in B2B technology marketing, and runs his own marketing consultancy.

His career spans three decades, having directed product marketing, corporate brand, marketing communications, customer marketing, product management, and sales enablement.

A computer science graduate with a solid technology background, prolific content creation and a proven leadership ability, he is uniquely capable in helping technology go-to-market teams – as clients and colleagues - to deliver successful business outcomes. In his spare time, Derek is an aspiring author.
