  • S4 Ep144: Barriers to Receiving Grace
    2026/08/30

God's grace is a profound and unmerited gift, a reflection of His very nature, freely given to us even when we deserve death for our transgressions. This divine favor is revealed through the Father, who watches over us; the Son, Jesus Christ, who took our punishment and offers forgiveness and eternal life; and the Holy Spirit, who is God's presence with us, comforting, advocating, and guiding us into a life of holiness. Holiness, simply put, is mirroring God's sinless nature, and it is a form of His grace that frees us from the "filthy nature of sin."

However, we often create barriers that prevent us from fully receiving the abundant grace God desires to give. The first barrier is **unrepented or persistent sin**. When the Holy Spirit, acting as our Counselor, reveals a sin to us and calls us to "cut it out," resisting His guidance by insisting on our own way or believing we can't change, we effectively block ourselves from receiving more of God's good gifts. This isn't about earning grace, but about being willing to walk faithfully in the cleansing process the Spirit offers, knowing our sins are already forgiven by Christ's blood.

The second, often trickier barrier, is **bitterness and unforgiveness**. Holding onto resentment and hurt from past wrongs, whether or not they were our fault, can fester like an untreated splinter, damaging our perspective and preventing healing. The tragic story of King David's sons, Amnon and Absalom (2 Samuel 13), illustrates this: Absalom's unaddressed bitterness over the humiliation of his sister led to murder and ultimately a coup against his own father. While the initial hurt may not be our fault, choosing to cling to that pain and allow it to define us becomes our choice, hindering the grace God wants to pour into our lives.

To overcome these barriers and walk in the fullness of God's grace, we are called to *repent* of our sins, expressing genuine sorrow and a willingness to allow the Spirit to continually cleanse us. We are also encouraged to *forgive* those who have wronged us. Forgiveness, though difficult, releases the other person and, crucially, releases us, restoring us to the wholeness God created us for. Furthermore, we are invited to *persistently storm the throne of grace with confidence* (Hebrews 4:16). God doesn't tire of our repeated requests; rather, He desires a deepening conversation, often using our persistent prayers to reveal what we truly need from His character and nature. As we listen to the Holy Spirit's promptings, repent of sin, and release unforgiveness, we open ourselves to fully experience the provision, protection, and transformative power of God's grace in our daily lives.

  • S4 Ep143: Grace and the Character of God
    2026/08/24

Every day you receive grace from God. Grace is the favor or gifts we receive from Him that not only get us through each day but truly equip us with every good thing we need.
God doean't give us these gifts to hold something over us or to manipulate our behavior. He gives us His grace because He is our loving Heavenly Father.
It is just the very character of God to be gracious towards His children. It's in His nature.
