Because as the bible puts it unless a man is born again, he will not enter the kingdom of heaven. Love in itself is not a prerequisite to being called a child of God. You see, you can walk into a college campus, sit in a lecture and submit all your assignments. For as long as you have not gone through the admission process, you're not a student despite doing everything possible that a student does. Not until you're assigned a student id, only then do the other activities count. So, you can practice any kind of love but if you are not born again, it's all in vain.
