These Hollywood locations are so exclusive, the only people slipping past security are ghosts. In this special Halloween episode, James T. Bartlett, author of Gourmet Ghosts, explores the haunted history of the Chateau Marmont in West Hollywood, Musso & Frank Grill on Hollywood Boulevard, and the Beverly Hills Hotel and its famous Polo Lounge. James dug through newspaper archives to find out which ghost stories hold up and which are just good legends. Along the way: a mysterious orb that appeared in Charlie Chaplin’s favorite booth, John Belushi’s reported presence at the Chateau Marmont, and the ghost that wakes a screenwriter so his script gets written.

Los Angeles, CA | Hollywood doesn’t just sell stories, it monetizes secrets. From mob-run extortion rings targeting Liberace to fixer Anthony Pellicano stockpiling wiretaps on the powerful, and David Letterman flipping the script on his own blackmailer, the pattern is clear. When image becomes currency, leverage becomes power. Gerald Petievich’s latest novel 13 Hillcrest Drive may be fiction, but the machinery behind it is real. In a city obsessed with controlling the narrative, the most dangerous weapon is the story someone else can tell about you.

I highly recommend Gerald Petievich’s book 13 Hillcrest Drive. You can find it here: https://www.amazon.com/13-Hillcrest-Drive-Gerald-Petievich/dp/1644284642. Learn more about his work: https://petievich.com/
