In this episode, we sit down with my father-in-law: The longest-practicing chiropractor in Yorba Linda, California. Might be a lie, but just about 40 years seems worthy of it.

We talk about what it was like growing up in a military family, how he met Terry, some of the challenges they faced being in an interracial relationship, and what has kept their marriage going for 50 YEARS. We also get into the obstacles he faced becoming a first-time dad and some of the lessons he’s picked up along the way.

There’s only so much life you can fit into 60–90 minutes, but this was such a great conversation and one I’m really glad we got to have.

And if you’re wondering why you don’t hear Alex quite as much in this one… she was a little busy crying.

Another great dad story. Another reminder that everybody’s road to fatherhood looks a little different.

Sadly, the audio on this one got all sorts of messed up because of the connection between my microphones and computer... and of course it had to happen on one of the episodes that meant the most to me.

In this episode, I sit down with my dad and hear more about how he made his way to the U.S., how he met my mom, and what it was like becoming a stepdad to a 10-year-old kid… me.

There were a lot of stories I’d never heard, plenty of surprises for my mom, and maybe even a few things after 27 years together that she’s hearing for the first time.

I’m genuinely bummed the audio didn’t capture this conversation the way I wanted it to, because there were a lot of tears, a lot of laughs, and a whole lot of wisdom in this one.

But that’s life. Sometimes you just gotta wing it.

We also get into some of the very real mental battles that come with being a dad, how he navigates those struggles, and what he and his wife do to keep their relationship strong while figuring out this whole parenting thing together.
