DDDSpod is back with their favorite fantasy detectives Ana and Din as they dive into Parts One and Two of Robert Jackson Bennett’s A Trade of Blood! This time, a star-crossed romance between the heirs of two feuding cattle dynasties ends in a grisly murder—but when the crime scene starts moving, Ana and Din uncover a fungal conspiracy involving mind-controlled humans, creepy monkey-cats, mysterious deaths, and a whole lot of meat. Meanwhile, Din hears voices, reunites with his estranged sister, and meets a hot new plant doctor who may finally give us the queer romance we deserve.

This week William and Jacob head firmly into deep space as they give a full spoiler review of Empire of Silence by Christopher Ruocchio, the first book in the internet-favorite Sun Eater series. Hadrian Marlowe The aliens couldn’t be cooler, and the world building is super intriguing. They weren’t so sure about some of the other choices here.

But first, they talk about The Odyssey, just like everyone else online is right now. Or maybe that’s just Jacob’s algorithm.

When a treasury envoy from the empire to the Kingdom of Yarrow goes missing, Ana and Din find themselves going head to head with a serial killer, and uncovering some of the Empire's most carefully hidden secrets. It's twisty, turny, and they loved it.

But first... William and Jacob run into each other in a darkroo...er, both share their feelings about the hit horror film Backrooms.

William and Jacob are back after a brief break to discuss Fonda Lee's The Last Contract of Isako. Isthmus Isako is a corporate samurai on the brutal planet Aquilo, where your next pink slip could mean your head is literally on the chopping block. There are a lot of typical sci-fi things happening here, and it's a well-paced and well-written novel but...it doesn't quite work for your hosts, and they're not sure why. But they get the giggles trying to figure it out.

It’s time for a big departure on DRAGONS DADDIES DEEP SPACE as your hosts are diving deep into Caro Claire Burke’s brilliant new novel Yesteryear, which is admittedly…not really sci-fi or fantasy, but is legitimately an incredible read. Natalie Heller Mills is the plastered-on smile behind a popular tradwife Instagram account whose perfect facade is beginning to crumble, especially when she wakes up in the 1850s. It’s thorny, it’s funny, it’s incredibly dark, surprisingly moving, and sharply written.
