  • How To STOP Microphone Feedback at Karaoke Shows! | KJ Tips from DJNTV
    2026/09/22

That ear-piercing squeal can ruin a karaoke performance in seconds! In this DJNTV discussion, experienced karaoke hosts share their real-world tricks for preventing and eliminating microphone feedback. The conversation covers proper gain settings, speaker and singer placement, microphone technique, wireless mic adjustments, and even how moving the karaoke screen can help keep singers out of problem areas.

The group also discusses common singer problems—holding the microphone too far away, cupping the microphone grille, standing directly in front of speakers, and forcing the KJ to continually raise the volume. Sometimes what sounds like feedback may even be a high-frequency sound that’s actually part of the karaoke track.

Whether you’re a new KJ or an experienced karaoke host, these practical tips can help you get cleaner vocals, fewer feedback problems, and a better experience for your singers and audience.

Featuring DJ Eric, Dennis Healy, Elvis Rowan, Jonathan Whitford, Robert and J.R.

  • Were They REALLY One-Hit Wonders? The Hits You Never Knew About! #DJNTV
    2026/09/21

We all know the term “one-hit wonder”—but what if that artist actually had a bunch of other hits? On this episode of the DJNTV Tuesday Night Music Show, the crew looks at artists remembered for one massive song in the U.S. even though they scored additional hits on country, R&B, hip-hop, alternative, rock, dance, international, or other charts.

Sir Mix-A-Lot is a perfect example. “Baby Got Back” dominates his mainstream legacy, but songs such as “My Hooptie” and “Posse on Broadway” also received airplay and charted outside the mainstream pop chart. The discussion also uncovers familiar songs that surprisingly never reached the Hot 100, including George Thorogood’s “Bad to the Bone” and Debbie Deb’s “When I Hear Music.”

Then there are artists whose American chart history tells only a fraction of their story. The crew gets into Thin Lizzy, Juice Newton, Devo, KISS, Spandau Ballet, Grateful Dead, Madness, Duran Duran, Dirty Vegas, Status Quo, Slade, Kraftwerk, Daft Punk and more—including acts that became enormous overseas while American audiences knew only one or two songs.

So maybe some of music’s most famous “one-hit wonders” weren’t really one-hit wonders at all—they were simply artists whose other hits happened somewhere else.

What artist do YOU think is unfairly remembered as a one-hit wonder?

  • Popular Artists We Just DON’T GET! Part 2 | This Could Make Some Fans MAD! #DJNTV
    2026/09/21

The DJNTV crew is back for Part 2 of a dangerous music conversation: which hugely successful artists do you respect—but simply don’t understand the hype around? As Brian S. Redd makes clear at the start, the point isn’t to hate these performers; it’s discussing artists whose enormous appeal just doesn’t connect with everyone.

This time, the names get even bigger. The conversation tackles Sabrina Carpenter, U2, Rick James, Post Malone, Lana Del Rey, Britney Spears, Garth Brooks, Justin Bieber, Bad Bunny, Drake, Sinéad O’Connor, Pink Floyd and more. Post Malone sparks an especially interesting discussion about how generational differences can make it difficult to understand why an artist attracts huge streaming numbers and massive audiences.

The DJs also get into a bigger change happening in music. Artists once needed broad crossover records, radio airplay and album sales, while today’s performers can build careers by concentrating heavily on their core fan base and touring. That may help explain why one generation can look at a superstar from another generation and ask, “What am I missing?”

And sometimes the answer may simply be: the music isn’t for us—and that’s okay.

Which massively popular artist do YOU just not get? Put your most controversial answer in the comments!

  • Are You Happy With The Choices You’ve Made As A DJ? | #DJNTV
    2026/09/12

Looking back over your DJ career, which decisions are you happiest you made—and which choices changed the direction of your business?

Brian S Redd and the crew reflect on the decisions that have shaped their lives as DJs. One of the biggest themes is connecting with other DJs instead of viewing everyone as competition. Networking has created friendships, support systems, business opportunities, and a way for DJs of different generations to learn from each other.

The conversation also explores embracing new technology instead of immediately dismissing it. From vinyl and CDs to digital music, computers, controllers, modern lighting, and smaller equipment, the technology DJs use has changed dramatically—and being willing to adapt can make the job easier.

Brian discusses why he’s glad he invested in premium equipment, not simply for better sound and lighting, but for the reliability and peace of mind dependable equipment provides at an event. He also talks about intentionally choosing smaller events and taking advantage of modern technology to create a lighter, more manageable DJ setup.

It’s a conversation about DJ careers, technology, networking, equipment, personal growth, and figuring out what actually makes you happy doing this job.

What DJ decision are YOU happiest you made?

  • Popular Artists We Just DON’T GET! | DJs Debate Music’s Biggest Mysteries #DJNTV
    2026/09/17

What hugely popular artist, band, or genre does everyone else seem to love—but you just don’t get?

That’s the question Brian S. Redd brings to the DJNTV Hangout. This isn’t about hating an artist or claiming they have no talent. It’s about those performers whose appeal simply goes right past you. As the panel puts it, you can respect the person while still not understanding the appeal of their art.

The conversation quickly gets dangerous as the DJs bring up Chappell Roan, Amy Winehouse, Sammy Hagar, Sleep Token, Meat Loaf, Dead Kennedys, Dead Milkmen, The Smiths, Dave Matthews Band, Karen Carpenter, Phish and even entire genres of electronic music. Naturally, not everyone on the panel agrees!

But the discussion also raises an interesting question: Does our taste in music change as we get older? Several panelists talk about artists they didn’t understand when they were younger but eventually learned to appreciate. Maybe some music simply finds us at a different point in life.

Who is the artist EVERYONE loves that you just don’t understand? Drop yours in the comments—and remember, this isn’t hate. We just don’t get it!

  • Karaoke Disasters: When the KJ Is the Problem! | #DJNTV
    2026/09/12

Tonight on #DJNTV, DJ Eric, Matthew Shun, and Jonathan Whitford put themselves on the spot and share karaoke disasters that weren’t caused by unruly singers or difficult venues—they were mistakes the KJs themselves made. The goal is simple: own the mistake, explain what happened, and share what they learned from it.

The stories range from forgetting to connect a speaker and running an entire show on one side, to showing up at venues where power access became a major problem. Jonathan explains why carrying long extension cords and extra XLR cables can be the difference between getting the show running or not running at all.

The crew also gets into video and audio failures, including damaged S-video connections, HDMI unexpectedly routing audio through a television, software not recognizing a controller, and configuration problems that create the dreaded dead air while an entire room waits for the KJ to figure things out.

Computer updates become another major lesson. Jonathan shares a night where a system issue repeatedly interfered with the karaoke show, while Eric stresses the importance of testing Virtual DJ and the complete setup after every update—before arriving at the gig.

Then there are the simple but painful mistakes: forgotten laptop bags, missing hard drives, power cords left at home, folding tables that weren’t completely locked, and other moments where preparation—or lack of it—can suddenly become the biggest problem in the room.

The overall lesson is that every KJ makes mistakes. What matters is learning from them, building better routines, carrying backups, testing equipment, and making sure the same disaster doesn’t happen twice.

What’s the worst mistake YOU have ever made at a karaoke or DJ gig—and how did you recover?

  • Mobile Dj Experience Evolution: Are You Still Loving It? #DJNTV
    2026/09/09

Tonight on DJNTV, Brian S Redd, Jay Brannan, DJ Damon, John Cawley, Buddy Mueller, Tom, and the crew discuss something that only years behind the DJ booth can really teach: what do experienced DJs understand today that they didn’t understand 20 or 30 years ago? The conversation begins with the idea that DJs don’t necessarily “age out” of the business—as long as they continue learning, changing their approach, and staying connected to current music and audiences.

One of the biggest lessons is learning that not every successful event needs a packed dance floor. Brian shares a recent event where virtually nobody danced—and it was still a great party. Instead of forcing the room into becoming something it wasn’t, he kept the music at the right level, let the guests socialize, and created the atmosphere they actually wanted. The lesson: an experienced DJ understands that the event isn’t about the DJ—it’s about helping the guests enjoy themselves.

The panel also talks about organization, efficiency, knowing your music, staying current with new artists, and recognizing that sometimes less is more. Experience gives DJs a much larger musical toolbox, but maturity teaches them that they don’t need to use every tool at every event. Instead, they learn to select exactly what the room needs at that particular moment.

Reading the room becomes less about controlling the crowd and more about building trust with them. The DJs discuss earning permission to introduce something unexpected only after proving that they understand the audience. They also explore how decades of events create a broader understanding of generations, music styles, personalities, and situations that simply cannot be learned overnight.

The discussion ultimately makes the case that experience can be a tremendous advantage—but only when a DJ keeps paying attention. Staying curious, keeping up with music, adapting equipment and workflow, developing empathy for different generations, and continuing to learn can make a veteran DJ more relevant rather than less relevant.

What is something you understand about DJing today that you definitely did NOT understand when you started?
