Cette série Conversation vient documenter la démarche de chercheurs et d’experts impliqués dans la sauvegarde et la mise en valeur des enregistrements du 1er Congrès de musique arabe du Caire. Elle a obtenu un financement du Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) à travers son programme, Impact Acceleration Account (IAA).

Ce projet de podcast constitue une des dimensions d'Au-delà de 1932, un projet de recherche nous invitant à repenser la modernité musicale du Moyen-Orient et de l'Afrique du Nord dans le sillage du Congrès du Caire de 1932. Hébergé par le Départment de musique du King’s College à Londres et financé par UK Research and Innovation (UKRI).

This series, Conversation, documents the work of researchers and experts involved in preserving and promoting the recordings of the 1st Cairo Congress of Arabic Music. It has received funding from the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) through its Impact Acceleration Account (IAA) program.

This podcast project is one of the dimensions of Beyond 1932, a research project that invites us to rethink musical modernity in the Middle East and North Africa in the aftermath of the 1932 Cairo Congress. A project hosted by the Department of Music at King's College London and funded by UK Research and Innovation (UKRI).

  • Conversation avec Jean Lambert - 1er Congrès de musique arabe du Caire, 1932.

    FR - Nous poursuivons cette série avec l'anthropologue et musicologue, Jean Lambert. Il évoque son implication dans la publication des enregistrements du Caire sur les pas de Bernard Moussali. Il revient aussi sur les débats qui ont émaillé le Congrès dans un contexte post-ottoman, colonial et nationaliste. Il dresse enfin un bref inventaire musical du Yémen des années 1930.

    EN - We continue this series with anthropologist and musicologist, Jean Lambert. He discusses his involvement in publishing the Cairo recordings, following in the footsteps of Bernard Moussali. He also looks back at the debates that punctuated the Congress in a post-Ottoman, colonial, and nationalist context. Finally, he provides a brief overview of the music of Yemen in the 1930s.
