  • Complete Global Saturation: Episode 12 - Resident Evil Requiem & 30th Anniversary Special
    2026/03/22

So here we are at the end of the season with Episode 12!

After an entire year of looking back at the past 20 of the 30 years of the franchise - covering the period and (almost) all the games after Alex's first book - we catch up to the current new game in the franchise - just also in time to have a little conversation about the entire history!

First up of course is Requiem though. In development for several years, Alex is able to expand on some of the things out in the public about the title and we are able to look through the lengthy development that ran alongside a number of other titles - plus a global pandemic - to massive success already last month.

Warning - some topics discussed do have spoilers so if you haven't yet finished the game, we highly recommend you do so before starting this episode! But once you have please return to enjoy some history and information about the title!

But its nothing like a 30th anniversary to make us both feel a little old as Rob reflects back on 30 years of fandom, and Alex on about 26 or so... who knew we'd both be still as keen on the franchise after all these years and what will the future be, both for the next 12 months as Capcom celebrates the anniversary of the franchise, and maybe also whats to come in the years ahead.

As always... all this, and much more in the latest episode of Complete Global Saturation.

This 12 episode limited podcast series is a follow up to Alex Aniel's book, 'Itchy, Tasty: A Unofficial History of Resident Evil' - which covers the first decade of the series from its origins in the early 1990s through to 2006. The book is available online at the usual retailers, in bookstores, or can be purchased directly from Alex's website - www.cvxfreak.com.

Future episodes will cover other games in the decade or so beyond all in aid of looking into topics Alex will cover for an eventual follow up charting more direct history of the rest of the series, and some special guests will join us from time to time to talk about the series.

Please feel free to subscribe, review, and share - and any questions can be put alongside wherever this is posted and we will try to return to these in a future episode.

Thank you all for your subscriptions and listens! We appreciate all of the support greatly. We are on a break after this episode.... but... Complete Global Saturation will return!

This episode was recorded in early March, prior to the announcement of further story DLC for Requiem, and as noted does have some story spoilers for the game at moments.

This podcast is not made for profit, but for educational purposes.

The theme for this podcast was composed by Ms. Akari Kaida, an ex-Capcom composer who worked on the original Resident Evil (the ceiling trap room theme), OKAMI, the Mega Man series and more! She’s on Twitter at @AkariKaida and speaks English, so give her a shoutout!

The music used at the end of the episode is the original ending theme - seemingly most fittingly used for now - from Biohazard/Resident Evil on the PS1 - Still Dawn. Other short audio clips come from the latest release - Resident Evil Requiem. All rights to Capcom.

  • Complete Global Saturation: Episode 11 - Resident Evil Village & REVerse
    2026/02/22

Episode 11 arrives, and Alex and Rob sit down to discuss - at the time of recording at least as we were mere weeks from the release of Requiem - the most recent brand new title in the series, Resident Evil Village. Released in May of 2021, confirmed nuggets about its development aren't as well known as earlier titles due to it being so recent, but that doesn't stop both the guys from looking into the origins, the decision to make a direct sequel to RE7, and various decisions such as some of the material shown but cut, the continued support to VR with the PSVR2, and much more.

The development of Village was indeed a long one, impacted by both being a follow up to a style reboot in Resident Evil 7, but also one that was impacted by COVID also. Indeed this lets Alex discuss some of the impacts by COVID to the franchise in general, and you might be surprised what that impact was overall. Additionally after we've looked into Village and all of it's content, we have a brief look back at the decision to make REVerse and the delay upon release that separate game title - included free with Village - that happened.

All this, and much more in the latest episode of Complete Global Saturation.

  • Complete Global Saturation: Episode 10 - Resident Evil 3 Remake & Resistance feat. Al Yang - Game Director RE Resistance
    2026/01/22

Welcome to 2026 and Episode 10 of the series. After the holiday break, Alex and Rob are looking towards the (30th Anniversary) year ahead and sharing their thoughts on Requiem and the next 12 months, but then it's onto the main topic and looking back to 2020 and the release of Resident Evil 3 Remake - and it's companion online game - Resistance.

It's not controversial to say response to RE3's remake has been a very mixed one and we don't hold back on why, but the more digging into the development certainly may provide some unknown answers to some on why. Did you know development for the game started still early during the RE2 remake's, was once considered to be combined with 2 as a combo, and Capcom didn't know how much they would likely feel was a safe amount to spend yet? Certainly starts to make more sense of some of the choices. This and much more is uncovered during the first half of the episode.

However things are looking up when a surprise guest joins in when the look back moves onto Resident Evil Resistance, the online multiplayer standalone that released alongside all copies of Resident Evil 3. We are joined by no less than the games director, Al Yang, from Neobards. Al is an exceptionally talented director, who's most recent title - Silent Hill f - for Konami has been exceptionally well received, and many of the team who worked on it - also worked previously on Resistance (making Al and many of the staff some of the only people who can say they worked on both major horror gaming franchises!).

Capcom chose the company to take onboard this project as its own thing, with it's own time frame, budget, and development and Al explains first hand how this happened, and lots about outsourcing development at the top level. While even Al himself knows multiplayer is not the top focus for Resident Evil, it's amazing to learn all about how these sorts of projects come together and learn more about why decisions are made. We hope you will find this all an amazing inside look directly that is extremely rare for such a recent release.

The video Al mentions regarding the pitch can be found here: https://youtu.be/s6PcbQC7YCg?si=bEBe7IVYikjGC7P7&t=572

  • Complete Global Saturation: Episode 9 - Resident Evil 2 Remake feat. CarcinogenSDA (Speedrunner and No Damage Player)
    2025/11/22

In the latest episode, Alex and Rob are joined by a slightly exhausted CarcinogenSDA - right of the back of a massive no damage run in the RE3 Remakes hardest mode!

Carci's history of challenge gameplay dominates the early conversation, looking into the history of his interest in making his way through the various franchise titles and how that begun.

Eventually though its time to talk the main topic, the Resident Evil 2 remake - or rather more correctly 're-imagining' - and the massive impact it's had on the franchise and again gaming in general as we look into the development gameplay, and release of the groundbreaking modern classic.

Carci's got plenty to say about gameplay design, and we look both forward and backward of the RE2 remake on both the decisions that led Capcom to it, and the ones they're making since it's absolute smashing successful release.

So join us as we talk through all of this and much more on this episode of Complete Global Saturation!

(Please be aware this episode was recorded some weeks back prior to the announcement of Resident Evil Requiem).

We will be taking a break in December, and our next episode number 10 - will be landing in 2 months time on Jan 22nd 2026.

  • Complete Global Saturation: Episode 8 - Resident Evil 7 feat. John Linneman from Digital Foundry
    2025/10/22

In the latest episode, Alex is joined in person in Tokyo once again, this time by John Linneman - writer, content creator of DF Retro, and all around tech guru from Digital Foundry. They sit down with Rob to talk about the development history of Resident Evil 7. Very much an important title to Alex as an experience learning about it's development is what inspired his first book originally.

A return to a first person viewpoint, only previously seen in spin-offs and mini-games was not what anyone was probably expecting - no less Alex who was shocked when he found out about it sometime before the games official reveal. But the original concept, art direction, early VR support, as well as the then new 'REach for the moon Engine' (RE Engine) all lined up to create an amazing title.

While reviews were generally positive, and the sales okay, eventually RE7 took off eventually becoming Capcom's highest selling single RE title for quite a number of years, helped by its extensive DLC, long life support, and the success of its VR inclusion. John especially talks across the various technical elements that helped bring it to life and propel it to such an iconic status in the franchise.

    2025/09/22

In the latest episode, Alex is joined in person in Tokyo by Moni from Resident Evil Database, one of Brazil's largest fan sites, while on her latest visit to Japan. They sit down with Rob to talk about the creation and reaction to what stands as currently Capcom's last major spin-off title in the series, Resident Evil Revelations 2.

10 years on from its release its been interesting to see both the impact it has had on the series but also what has not been followed up on, and the three discuss the impact of the announcement, the horror and fear focused elements, and the current focus of the series - and if Capcom will consider returning to the dangling threads left behind.

  • Complete Global Saturation: Episode 6 - Resident Evil Remasters and HD Ports (plus Umbrella Corps too!)
    2025/08/22

In this episode, Alex and Rob take a trip back to the 2010's - when in an era where Capcom was figuring out the future of the franchise, they also revisited and expanded the past to new platforms, new engines, and HD displays! Remasters and HD Ports for everyone!

Between 2011 and 2019, and including during the franchises 20th anniversary in 2016, many of the titles released in the franchise were revisiting ones from the past. From Revelations moving from handhelds to HDTV's, Resident Evil 4 still seeing numerous ports almost 15 years on from its original release, the amazing ports of the Gamecube era Resident Evil Remake and Zero to nearly every platform, Code Veronica in HD and somehow then back to SD... and much much more. We step through the history of this crazy time period and try and make sense of it all.

Of course not all of it could be great, and there was also one major spin-off in this era we have to mention... Umbrella Corps. A mixed project with mixed focus and mixed understanding, we also take some time to look into this oddity of the franchise to figure out what just was the thoughts behind it.

This is weird episode, but we certainly think it's a great one. So join us as we talk through all of this and more on this episode of Complete Global Saturation!

  • Complete Global Saturation: Episode 5 - Resident Evil 6 - Feat. Gene Park - Videogame Journalist @ The Washington Post
    2025/07/22

In this episode, Alex and Rob are joined by Washington Post Game Journalist Gene Park. Together we take a trip back to Tall Oaks, Lanshiang, and Edonia as Resident Evil 6 is revisited in all its glory.

After an intro with Gene on his history of gaming and how he ended up writing coverage of videogames for The Washington Post in recent years, a breakdown of the development history of Resident Evil 6 leads us into the deeper breakdown of the games design itself. Diving into both shows us why it was both such a failure upon release - and somehow now redeemed itself as an unexpected success for Capcom in recent years.

Alex and Rob haven't always been the biggest fans of this very divisive title, but know it has a fan base and Gene certainly reminds us why - to the point where all of us and hopefully you listening will be reminded of why Resident Evil 6 was such a unique title and one even possibly worth revisiting.
