The Reds got shut out 4-0 by the Dodgers in a brutal game that highlighted just how far apart playoff-bound teams and those out of contention can be. Facing ace Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Cincinnati’s offense went cold—just three hits total, including one in seven innings—and couldn’t capitalize on a late ninth-inning chance with runners on first and third. Key hitters like Eugenio Suarez and Matt McLain struggled again with multiple strikeouts, while even bright spot Sal Stewart fell victim to the pen. Rhett Lowder pitched well enough for five innings, but it wasn’t enough. With another showdown against Cy Young winner Blake Snell looming Wednesday, the Reds face a steep climb—but these losses are part of the learning curve as they push toward improvement.

The Reds’ playoff dreams are officially over after a crushing 4-0 loss to the Dodgers, their first game this season where they knew they’d miss the postseason. Yamamoto shut them down with just one hit through seven innings, and even with runners in scoring position late, Cincinnati couldn’t crack his defense. Offense has been plagued by McLain and Suárez’s strikeout woes, while Lowder showed flashes of promise in his five-inning outing. Next up: a brutal test against Blake Snell, with Andrew Abbott on the mound — don’t sleep on this one.
