Winston Churchill and David Lloyd George in Britain's Liberal government as Europe suddenly hurtled towards war in the summer of 1914.

But as the Cabinet debated whether Britain should enter the war, it was not certain that the two men would emerge on the same side of the argument. With the result that Churchill - a supporter of going to war - passed a note to Lloyd George during a meeting, asking whether they would be "comrades - or opponents?"
