Well, it's the best day of the week around here! I get an opportunity to share another episode from the coolest gang on the planet! This is part two, I think we did a great job of wrapping this career up.

It's a career Jim can certainly be proud of, I know I'm proud to know him and to have had the honor to work with him.

It'll come as no surprise, but he continues to serve in a Peer Support function for first responders and veterans, so I wanted to give him an opportunity to speak on that as well.

I couldn't have had a nicer guy on the podcast, show him some love and enjoy the show!!!

  • Most popular episodes (Retired Tucson Police Sergeant Nancy Dowdy Ep 32)

Occasionally I'll highlight one of the top episodes from years past...this week I have the honor of placing Nancy Dowdy...

"Nancy and I worked together at the end of our careers. She was the Detective Sgt in Operations Division South. We handled some capers during this time, and I felt like we were pretty solid friends, but I actually learned a lot about Nancy during our interview. There was so much more to her career than I ever knew.

I've mentioned her in previous episodes, she was a Hostage Negotiator, and she got into a shooting of her own. She shares how all of her experiences impacted her professional and personal life. She's a teacher, of both cops and now kids (Can't believe they let her warp young minds) and she's on a journey to get her Doctorates degree!

There's so many reasons to be proud to know her, but you'll just have to listen in for yourself and get to know her little better! Thank you Squad, we are well over 79K downloads and growing. All credit goes to you and my guests! Enjoy, and be safe out there!"

In this episode we cover Brian's time as a Sergeant and in each episode the stories get better and better.

Being a cop is challenging, but leading men and women who have extraordinary authority presents some new challenges. It truly is an art form if you do it properly.

Don't miss out on this episode, I think it may be the best of the series!

  • Dawn Barkman (Retired Pima County Sheriff Sergeant)

First and foremost I have to thank Dawn for coming back to Tucson, from Northern AZ, and agreeing to be on the show. She just retired February 13, but left for higher ground and cooler temps.

Second, I'll thank Lillian George (Choir Practice Alumni) and Current PCSO Lt. Jeremy Olsen for harassing Dawn to be on the show. Dawn called me out of the blue and said that Lillian and Jeremy were calling and texting her to be on the show. I apologized and insisted I hadn't put them up to it, but I'm so glad they did.

Dawn's story is very unique, almost incredible, and her courage is unmatched. Tune in and it'll quickly become apparent what I'm talking about. Her fortitude in working her way into public service, and her drive for "justice for the victims" is inspiring.

Give her a warm welcome and enjoy the show...

Jim spent 38 years in law enforcement before retiring, during this time he rose to the rank of Captain. I worked for Jim a few times over the years, Undercover and the Citywide Force Unit, and I can tell you he's a very down-to-earth man.

We made it through a good portion of his career, but there's no way to cover 38 years in one interview...he'll be back!

Turn it up and enjoy the ride...

  • Becky Noel (Retired Tucson Police Community Service Officer and Co-Author)

I met Becky in Midtown while I was in the bicycle unit. She was a hard working CSO who had all the apartment complexes and rental properties under her thumb. She taught them how to be better property managers, how to make their properties safer for the residents, and the Crime Free Multi-Housing program helped fast track evictions on serious bad actors in the division.

She taught this program around the US, sharing the knowledge she had learned in training and her hands on experience. Her career wasn't without some trials along the way, but she navigated them with grace.

She also contributed to the department's Honor Guard for many years. Finally, she authored a chapter in the book "Empowering Women with Words," available on Amazon.com. Fifteen women came together, writing their own chapter in this book that went on to become a best seller!

Please welcome the newest member of our Squad and enjoy the show...

  • Brian Kunze- The K9 years (Retire Pima County Sheriff Sergeant)
    2026/03/11

    Send us Fan Mail

As promised, Brian's first episode covered his younger, more formative years as a new Deputy and now we're heading into his time as a K9 handler. His four-legged partners were all studly police dogs, so I'm glad we're covering their heroics this week.

Many times, K9 Officers send their partners into very dangerous situations to reduce the likelihood of danger to the cops. It doesn't make it any less stressful if the dog is hurt or worse. Larry Summerfield's name was dropped, listen for the story where their two dogs tag teamed a really bad actor who needed some K9 TLC...

There's a lot of pics of Brian's K9s, check them out on Facebook or Instagram...

Longtime friend of the show, Paul Dietzel, is back! You can't listen to this show and not be reminded of stories from across the years in public service! Paul is back with new stories, but more importantly, we have a discussion about Paul's experience attending the Bouldercrest Foundation's StruggleWell Program.

It's been awhile since I spoke about the Bouldercrest Foundation, so it is timely and I'm always glad to have Paul hang out for a few hours. If you are in law enforcement, or love someone who is in law enforcement, who carries the weight of their job on their hearts...please consider this FREE program that helps get you back on the path to resilience.
