In episode 019 of Chill Talks, I had a truly inspiring conversation with Tokyo-based artist and producer Johnnie Bailey.
We explored his upcoming concept album Yamanote Line Vol. 2, where he recorded ambient sounds at different train stations around Tokyo and turned them into lush, story-rich soundscapes. With contributions from five different producers, this project marks an exciting step forward in his musical journey — and we’re honored to offer an early listen just for the Chill Talks community.
Other highlights from our talk include:
- His move into a new, larger home with his wife, kids, and visual artist Chihori Kihata, who also creates all of his artwork
- How they share a creative studio space under one roof
- Reflections on Tokyo’s soundscape and how it shapes music
This episode offers a beautiful blend of sound design, family life, and creative collaboration.
