This is the first of three special episodes celebrating the Greater Manchester Good Employment Awards. Each episode explores an award category, sharing insights from leaders who have driven real change to inspire this year’s nominations.
In this episode, we’re joined by Dave Russel, Chief Fire Officer of Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) and recipient of the King’s Fire Service Medal for distinguished service. Since his appointment in 2020, Dave has led a transformation in leadership and workplace culture at GMFRS, championing inclusive leadership, employee wellbeing, and stronger community engagement.
We discuss the challenges and successes of driving cultural change in a high-pressure environment, the importance of trust and accountability, and what businesses of all sizes can learn from the fire service’s approach to leadership and transformation.
