Canine dermatomyositis represents an inflammatory ischemic vasculopathy of immune origin with a strong genetic predisposition. It primarily affects the skin and, to a lesser extent, striated musculature. This condition constitutes a relevant spontaneous model for studying human juvenile dermatomyositis. Understanding of this pathology has evolved toward a complex genetic disorder model, abandoning the concept of a simple hereditary disease. Research has identified three genetic risk loci and highlighted the central role of dysregulation of the type I interferon signaling pathway as the major pathogenic driver. These advances pave the way for more targeted diagnostic and therapeutic approaches in 2025.
