  • The Edmonton Book Ban
    2025/09/15

In this episode, we dive into the heated debate over the removal of classic and culturally significant books from Edmonton school libraries. From "The Handmaid’s Tale" to "Brave New World," we explore why these works are being targeted, who’s behind the push for censorship, and what it means for students, parents, and educators. Join us as we unpack the difference between banning and curating, the influence of lobby groups like Action4Canada, and the bigger questions about freedom, education, and who gets to shape young minds. Also dick jokes.

  • Hawaiian Pizza (Premium)
    2025/09/08

Love it or hate it, few foods spark as much debate as Hawaiian pizza. But here’s the kicker: it’s not Hawaiian at all...it’s Canadian. That’s right, pineapple-on-pizza was invented in Ontario in the 1960s by a Greek immigrant named Sam Panopoulos, and somehow it went on to divide the planet into Team Pineapple vs. Team Purist. In this episode of Canada is Boring, we chew over the bizarre origin story of Hawaiian pizza, why it’s Canada’s most controversial culinary export, and how one small-town restaurant ended up changing the global pizza conversation forever. Expect tangy history, saucy opinions, and maybe a few cheesy jokes along the way.

  • The Hermit Of Gully Lake
    2025/09/01

In this episode of Canada is Boring, we dive into the strange, stubborn, and slightly tragic life of Willard Kitchener MacDonald, better known as the Hermit of Gully Lake. Draft dodger? Freedom fighter? Just a guy who really, really hated small talk? For more than 60 years, Willard lived alone in the woods of Nova Scotia, no phone, no electricity, no Amazon Prime. We unpack how a man survives (and thrives) off-grid for decades and why he became a local legend.

  • The Calgary Balloonatic
    2025/08/25

In this episode, we spin the tale of Daniel Boria, Calgary’s self-styled “balloonatic.” Seeking promo gold for his cleaning business, he strapped over 100 helium balloons to a lawn chair, then soared above the Stampede grounds like something out of Up. His plan to parachute in fell apart fast, high winds blew him far off target and toward airport airspace. He reached an astonishing 14,000 feet before being arrested for “dangerous operation of an aircraft” and other infractions. A judge called the stunt “unconscionably stupid,” yet Boria shrugged it off, bragging that it would be “the greatest story to tell for the rest of my life”

  • Don’t Go In The Woods
    2025/08/11

Nova Scotia just told everyone to keep out of the woods, no hiking, no camping, no fishing, no ATVs, trails closed, effective 4:00 p.m. on August 5, 2025, with fines up to $25,000. Camping’s only allowed in official campgrounds, and a province-wide burn ban is in effect through October 15 (unless conditions improve). We break down what’s actually forbidden and brainstorm some bizarre solutions.
