Pastor Steve concludes our series on the big picture story of the Bible focusing on the church - how it came into being, what it is, its purpose, and its destiny. He reminds us that the church was birthed in the Spirit at Pentecost and continues to live and minister in the Spirit's power and leading. The church is in His Majesty's service - up to God for worship and adoration, in to the family of believers, and out to share the good news. We conclude with a glorious vision of the destiny of the church in the new creation where we the people of God, will be in the place of God, enjoying the presence of God.

In series on the big story of the Bible, Pastor Steve left us last week at the end of Genesis 3 with mankind subject to the twin powers of sin and death. How will God now liberate His fallen creation. Pastor Steve takes us on a journey through the Old Testament covenants, division, exile, and restoration of the Israelite tribes, and the warnings and hopes of the Hebrew prophets. He shows how the story moves towards and and is made complete in Jesus and His victory and the amazing freedom in which we now live. As the apostle Paul says, echoing the hopes of the Old Testament people of God: "Blessed is the one whose sin the Lord will never count against them."

How do we explain the world as it is today with its moral and natural evils? Pastor Steve shows us how we all still face today the key issue of Genesis 3 - will we trust God and His boundaries or set our own? Pastor Steve explains where the devil came from, how he seeks to undermine God's work and His good creation, and what happens when we believe the devil rather than God - a broken relationship with God, with each other and with creation. For us there are consequences but not abandonment as Genesis gives us the first sight of God's plan through Jesus to redeem His fallen world. Sin has abounded, but grace has abounded even more!

Pastor Steve explains that humans, uniquely, are made in the image of God. Discovering what it means to be made in His image, answers the question "What does it mean to be human?" This includes Representing, Relating, and Ruling. We represent God as His image bearers, carrying His presence living His values, and carrying the message of the Kingdom. We are made to be in relationship with God as well as with each other - in love, recognising that everyone is equally valuable in God’s sight. Made to rule, men and women together are to model kingdom principles of leadership through service in the home, church, place of work or vocation and in various tiers of government.

Pastor Steve Riley continues the Bible’s account of history in six acts, with foundational teaching on sex and marriage. The Bible begins and ends with a marriage - Eve to Adam (with God the Father "giving the bride away!" and Christ's wedding to His church. In marriage two become one flesh - the couple start a new family the final responsibility for which rests with them. It's a life-long, monogamous, covenant relationship. Jesus and Paul also valued and affirmed singleness, which has its own unique blessings. Pastor Steve shares three important principles of great decision making - valuable in any context especially important in marriage.
