Elias Lindholm is feeling physically ready for the new season after a months-long break, but lingering back issues remain a major question mark for both him and the Boston Bruins. Signed to a massive seven-year, $54M deal in 2024, his point production hasn’t lived up to expectations, forcing the team to lean on other centers like Pavel Zacha and Fraser Minten. With the salary cap rising, his contract’s financial impact is lessened — but the Bruins still hope he can thrive as a middle-six contributor, especially on the power play, putting up 40-50 points. His health is everything: past injuries have hampered his play, especially post-Olympics, so he’s revamped his offseason routine to prioritize rehab and gradual training — all while hoping this time, his body stays strong.

James Hagens lit up the Boston Bruins’ Prospects Showcase with six goals in two games, including a four-goal OT thriller against Buffalo — helping the Bruins sweep the series 10-5. Training camp kicks off Thursday as eyes turn to roster cuts and NHL contract deadlines: Ottawa nears an eight-year deal for Drake Batherson, Buffalo locked in Noah Ostlund, while Ducks and Devils scramble to sign before the deadline. Elsewhere, Bo Horvat takes captaincy in NYI, Montreal extends Martin St. Louis through 2030, and Cam Talbot heads to Columbus on a one-year deal. With looming CBA changes, every move could reshape the league — and the Bruins’ camp is just getting started.

The Boston Bruins are at a leadership crossroads as training camp begins, with no official captain since March 2025—relying instead on David Pastrnak and Charlie McAvoy. Rumors swirl about whether they’ll name a single captain for 2026-27 or stick with a committee approach. Both players are frontrunners, and McAvoy insists there’ll be no rivalry if one gets the “C,” praising Pastrnak’s character and their unshakable bond. Management, including Cam Neely and coach Marco Sturm, are still weighing options—but the team’s culture remains strong, built on mutual support and collective leadership, regardless of the final decision.

NHL contract rules are changing fast—maximum deal lengths are shrinking, and front-loading is getting tighter. Pavel Zacha, Boston’s rising star, could be in the spotlight as his current deal nears its end. With new caps on extension length and free-agent contracts, Zacha may need to act quickly to land an eight-year deal before the clock runs out. Teams and players alike must rethink strategy as the salary cap landscape shifts.

James Hagens just lit up the Prospects Showcase in Buffalo, exploding for six goals in two games—including a game-winning OT tally—proving he’s not just a playmaker but a lethal scorer with an elite shot. After grinding in Boston over the summer, he’s entering main training camp with serious momentum, showing speed, vision, and the confidence of a future top-six forward. Coach Trent Whitfield called it exactly what they expected: relentless, offensive-minded hockey. Other prospects like Dans Locmelis and Jaxsin Vaughan also shone, but Hagens’ breakout performance is the headline—signaling he’s ready to fight for a Bruins roster spot.

James Hagens, Boston’s 2025 No. 7 pick, exploded for six goals in two Prospects Showcase games—including a four-goal OT winner—showcasing elite shot power and offensive fire against top prospects. At just 19, he’s steadily rising as a potential top-six forward for the Bruins, especially with his power-play prowess (4 of 6 goals) and NHL experience last season. While defense and faceoffs need work, his scoring punch makes him a must-watch in training camp—if he brings that same energy, a roster spot feels inevitable.

The Bruins’ latest top-ten pick, 19-year-old James Hagens, is poised to make waves after a dominant college season and standout performance at a prospect showcase—scoring two clutch goals against Buffalo’s prospects. Already a scoring machine from high school through college, Hagens showed NHL-ready poise with an assist in his five-game cameo last season, including playoffs. Though undersized, his speed, creativity, and hockey IQ have consistently outmatched his frame. With the Bruins desperate for talent to compete in their tough division, Hagens’ rookie year could be pivotal—and his preseason play will decide if he cracks the opening night roster or starts in the AHL.
