Welcome to the second episode of Bloody Sam: A Peckinpah Fan Podcast! Over the course of the next 14 episodes I will be looking at all the feature films of the legendary director Sam Peckinpah. Each episode will also feature a special guest which will range from Peckinpah newbies right through to die hard fanatics.
On this episode we have Peckinpah fan and one of the most knowledgeable film nerds I know Pearce Duncan (formerly Dracula Sucks podcast) to talk about Peckinpah's sophomore feature "Ride the High Country."
Over the course of the episode we talk about how this represent's a quantum leap in Peckinpah's filmmaking, how it establishes a number of classic Peckinpah tropes as well some of his recurring cast and we also get into how this is more hopeful than your usual Peckinpah fare. Plus, we talk about how it is a film so good that one of the leads (Randolph Scott) retired after its release as he thought it was such a perfect capstone to his storied career.
