  • The Book of Enoch Part 1: Testing the Book of Enoch Against Scripture - Episode 269
    2026/02/02

In this episode of Bible Mysteries Podcast, Scott Mitchell and John Potts begin a careful, Scripture-based examination of the Book of Enoch. With increased interest in Enoch across Christian media, this study establishes clear biblical ground rules for evaluating non-canon writings without undermining the authority or preservation of God’s word.

Rather than dismissing Enoch outright—or elevating it to the level of Scripture—this episode tests the book using the biblical standard itself. Scott explains why quotation does not equal inspiration, why Scripture must interpret Scripture, and why internal contradictions disqualify any writing from being considered God-breathed.

This is Part 1 of a multi-part series.

    What This Episode Covers
    • Why the Book of Enoch must be examined through Scripture, not alongside it
    • The difference between inspiration, historical value, and quotation
    • God’s promise to preserve His word and why that promise matters today
    • Why claims about “the original Greek” or “the original Hebrew" are often misleading
    • How manuscript traditions affect modern Bible translations
    • Why Enoch’s opening chapter conflicts no with biblical prophecy
    • Mount Sinai vs. the Mount of Olives and why the distinction matters
    • The claim that “all upon the earth shall perish” and why Scripture disagrees
    • The biblical problem with the term “the watchers”
    • Why Jude’s quotation of Enoch does not canonize the entire book
    Key Scriptures Discussed
    • Genesis 3
    • Genesis 5:21–24
    • Psalm 12:6–7
    • Isaiah 24
    • Zechariah 14
    • Matthew 25:31–46
    • Romans 10
    • Galatians 4:24–26
    • Daniel 4
    • Jude 1:14–15
    • Acts 17:28
    • 2 Peter 1:20–21
Core Takeaway God’s word is self-authenticating, consistent, and preserved. Any book that contradicts what God has already revealed—especially on prophetic and doctrinal matters—cannot be Scripture.

The Book of Enoch raises important questions, but Scripture alone determines the answers.

What’s Coming Next In the next part of this series, Scott will continue examining where the Book of Enoch diverges from Scripture and will address topics often tied to Enoch, including the origin of demons and the distinction between demons and fallen angels. • How the Holy Spirit Speaks Today: Testing the Spirits Through God’s Word
    2026/02/01
Episode Summary In this Bible study message, the question of how the Holy Spirit speaks today is examined through Scripture. Rather than relying on personal experiences, impressions, or private revelations, the Bible provides clear instruction on how God communicates with His people in this present age.

Scripture teaches that believers are given a teachable spirit at salvation so they may be instructed by the Holy Ghost. The Spirit teaches by comparing spiritual things with spiritual—Scripture with Scripture—and never contradicts the written Word of God. Throughout this study, biblical examples are used to show how the Spirit leads, teaches, seals, and calls through the gospel, while also warning against claims that cannot be tested by Scripture.

This lesson emphasizes the importance of discernment, the danger of private interpretation, and the sufficiency of God’s completed Word as the final authority for faith and practice.

    Key Teaching Points
    • The difference between a teachable spirit and the Holy Spirit
    • How the Holy Spirit teaches by comparing Scripture with Scripture
    • What it truly means to be led by the Spirit of God
    • How resisting the Holy Ghost is tied to rejecting God’s Word
    • Why Scripture is a more sure word than visions or experiences
    • The biblical process by which the Spirit calls sinners to salvation
    • How to test the spirits according to 1 John 4
    • Why God’s Word is complete and sufficient for believers today
    Scripture References
    • 1 Corinthians 2
    • Psalm 138:2
    • Luke 4:1
    • Romans 8:12–14
    • Acts 7:51–52
    • Acts 16:6–10
    • 2 Thessalonians 2:13–14
    • Romans 10:13–17
    • John 6:63–64
    • 2 Peter 1:19–21
    • Colossians 1:24–29
    • 1 John 4:1–3
Main Theme God speaks today as He always has—through His Word. The Holy Spirit does not add new revelation but teaches, reveals, and applies what God has already spoken in Scripture. Any claim of spiritual guidance must be tested against the written Word of God, which remains the final authority. Closing Encouragement Believers are not called to chase experiences or private messages. They are called to trust the Word of God, test the spirits, and follow the Spirit’s leading through Scripture. The same Holy Spirit who inspired the Word now uses it to convict hearts, teach truth, and call sinners to salvation through the gospel of Jesus Christ. • Biblical Wisdom and the Fear of the Lord: Hebrew Insights with Jeff Dodson - Episode 268
    2026/01/26

In Episode 268 of the Bible Mysteries Podcast, Scott Mitchell is joined once again by our friend and brother in Christ, Jeff Dodson, for a focused discussion on biblical wisdom and its meaning in the Old Testament.

This episode continues the broader study of the foundational elements of faith—worship, knowledge, wisdom, and prayer—with special attention given to wisdom as revealed through the Hebrew language. Jeff explains the Hebrew word chokmah and contrasts God-given wisdom with human reasoning, showing how Scripture consistently ties wisdom to the heart and to the fear of the Lord.

Scott and Jeff also discuss the importance of studying ancient Hebrew rather than modern forms, the role of historical Jewish writings in understanding language and culture, and why Scripture cautions against confusing knowledge with wisdom. The conversation emphasizes that true wisdom is shaped through reverence for God, obedience to His Word, and a willingness to walk the old paths rather than follow modern distractions.

Listeners will also hear insights into hidden literary structures in Scripture, including Hebrew acrostics found in passages such as Proverbs 31 and Psalm 119, revealing intentional design and order embedded within God’s Word.

This episode offers encouragement for believers seeking clarity, discernment, and spiritual maturity in an age of constant information and distraction.

    Key Scriptures referenced include:
    Proverbs 1:7, Psalm 90:12, Psalm 119, Proverbs 31

    Topics covered include:
The Hebrew meaning of wisdom (chokmah)
    Wisdom versus human cleverness
Why the fear of the Lord is the foundation of wisdom
    Ancient Hebrew and biblical interpretation
    Hidden acrostic structures in Scripture
Technology, culture, and their effect on discernment
Building a stable spiritual foundation rooted in God’s Word
