  • If Nalanda Never Burned, India Would Be...
    2026/09/07

Nalanda University ran, without interruption, for nearly 700 years. Students traveled from China, Korea, Tibet, and across Southeast Asia to study medicine, astronomy, and philosophy at a single campus, centuries before most of today's oldest universities existed. Then, in 1193, it was gone.

In this episode of the Bharatiya Chronicles Podcast, we explore what Nalanda actually was, what the historical record really says about its destruction (including a popular detail that may not even be true), and what might have been different for India, and the world, if it had survived. We also look at the modern effort to bring it back, and the unexpected man behind that revival.

Hosted and researched by Anurodh Das, 15 years old author of "Vishwavidyalaya: The Lost Knowledge of India."
