“She sat at the back, and they said she was shy. She led from the front and they hated her pride.” I feel like this line and this poem represent me perfectly. An exact description of so many moments in my childhood. It feels impossible to please the world. That no matter what I do, it’s not the right way. I want to be able to breathe and feel peace & strength within myself. How can I do that when there’s so many impossible standards? How can I show up as a whole person, even when society tells me I’m ‘not quite there yet.’
