  • S1 Ep8: Humans are glitchy
    2023/05/04

Engineering leaves little room for failure. We want bridges to stand and airplanes to fly. But humans make mistakes - we're glitchy - and artistic progress often comes from failure. We conclude our first series of the Art and AI podcast by identifying the essential tension between the ideal models that drive engineering, and the messy reality of the human condition.

Participants include Vanessa Brassey, Patrick Butlin, Chlöe Reddaway, Cari Hyde-Vaamonte, Stephen Whiteman, Joanna Zylinska, Michael Luck, Sacha Golob, Michelle Fletcher and Ali Hossaini.

  • S1 Ep7: Art of the possible
    2023/05/04

It is easy to forget that creative AI is in its infancy. In this seventh episode of Art and AI, we ask the question, 'What is art?' And we continue discussing how art is an unsafe space.

Art defines humanity, and art defines community by expressing humanity's values. Are non-human values possible? Can artificial intelligence develop its own values?

Participants include Michael Luck, Joanna Zylinska, curator Priyesh Mistry, Cari Hyde-Vaamonte, Sacha Golob, Ali Hossaini, Stephen Whiteman and Ayla Lepine.

  • S1 Ep6: The loudest voice
    2023/05/04

AI has entered the high stakes worlds of medicine, transportation and law. We've suggested that art is a safe place to explore AI's reliability. But is art a safe space? In this sixth episode of Art and AI, we'll hear how art too is a risky place where society forges its fundamental values.

Will AI continue to rely on datasets that amplify the loudest voices? Or will it somehow express our highest values: community, beauty and love?
