In an Al Jazeera panel discussion, analysts examined the deepening standoff between Iran and the United States. Abbas Aslani, Senior Research Fellow at the Center for Middle East and Strategic Studies, said talks remain deadlocked, with no promising signals from Washington. He explained Iran’s three-stage proposal seeks to separate nuclear issues from reopening the Strait of Hormuz, prioritising immediate regional concerns. Aslani warned military escalation is now as likely as a diplomatic breakthrough, amid increased US military posture. Mohamad ElMasri, Professor at the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies, said neither side wants war or a prolonged stalemate, raising the risk of renewed conflict. He added Israel is pushing for escalation, seeking regime change or weakening Iran and lobbying the US to return to war. Both said any future conflict would differ from previous wars, with wider regional and energy implications.
