    The United Kingdom has become only the second country in the world to ban the sale of tobacco to anyone born on or after 1 January 2009, aiming to create what the government calls a "smoke free generation". The legislation also introduces new powers to regulate vaping products, including restrictions on flavours and packaging to reduce their appeal to young people. Official data shows that more than 78,000 people die from smoking related illnesses in England annually, with the habit costing society over $59 billion each year.
