Accessible Hunter Podcast — THIS WEEK’S GUEST! Please welcome Monica Quimby to the Accessible Hunter Podcast! 🇺🇸🏒

Monica is a member of Team USA Women’s Para Ice Hockey, and last year she helped make history when Team USA won GOLD at the inaugural World Para Ice Hockey Women’s World Championship in Slovakia.

And this wasn’t just any championship. It was the first-ever Women’s World Championship — and Team USA became the first women’s team to put their name on that trophy.

Monica was a big part of that historic run, including being named Team USA Player of the Game after scoring a goal and adding an assist in the semifinal against Great Britain. Team USA went on to defeat Canada 7–1 in the gold-medal game.

But Monica’s story goes way beyond the medals.

After a spinal cord injury ended her career as an NCAA athlete, she found her way back to competitive sports through adaptive athletics and eventually became a longtime leader in women’s para ice hockey. She has been advocating for the growth of the women’s game for years—and today she’s helping open doors for the next generation of female para ice hockey athletes around the world.

And if you know anything about Monica, you know she brings energy, positivity and a whole lot of heart wherever she goes. Her Team USA teammates have described her as the person who keeps everyone fired up and believing in each other.

We’re going to talk about her journey, Team USA, winning that historic gold medal, women’s para ice hockey, adaptive sports, and what it means to help build something that will be here for the athletes coming next.

Lasha has an incredible story of resilience, survival, and rediscovering the healing power of the outdoors.

Born in Whitehorse, Yukon, and raised in a wall tent while traveling through rural communities across northern Canada, Lasha’s early life was deeply connected to the land. After illness, a devastating brain tumor diagnosis, and life-changing surgery that left her mute and facing lasting challenges, she found herself drawn back outside.

Touching the grass. Feeling the wind. Holding a rock. Harvesting berries.

Those simple moments helped reconnect her with the outdoors—and eventually led her into hunting, trapping, conservation, and using her artwork to give back to the outdoor community.

Today, Lasha and her husband, caregiver, and interpreter Chris continue to prove that challenges don’t have to mean the end of your adventures.

We talk about how his summer is going, keeping his daughter entertained outdoors. We also discuss pressure wounds and what it takes to get them healed and how important it is to have individuals in the community to talk with about your spinal cord injury.
