Monica is a member of Team USA Women’s Para Ice Hockey, and last year she helped make history when Team USA won GOLD at the inaugural World Para Ice Hockey Women’s World Championship in Slovakia.

And this wasn’t just any championship. It was the first-ever Women’s World Championship — and Team USA became the first women’s team to put their name on that trophy.

Monica was a big part of that historic run, including being named Team USA Player of the Game after scoring a goal and adding an assist in the semifinal against Great Britain. Team USA went on to defeat Canada 7–1 in the gold-medal game.

But Monica’s story goes way beyond the medals.

After a spinal cord injury ended her career as an NCAA athlete, she found her way back to competitive sports through adaptive athletics and eventually became a longtime leader in women’s para ice hockey. She has been advocating for the growth of the women’s game for years—and today she’s helping open doors for the next generation of female para ice hockey athletes around the world.

And if you know anything about Monica, you know she brings energy, positivity and a whole lot of heart wherever she goes. Her Team USA teammates have described her as the person who keeps everyone fired up and believing in each other.
