  • Healing from Childhood Trauma, Discovering a Late ADHD Diagnosis and Neurodiversity in Education. A Chat With ADHD Expert and Teacher Simon Da Roza.
    2024/05/01

In this hard-hitting episode, Linda chats to lifelong passionate educator, ADHD expert and late diagnosed ADHD'er Simon Da Roza.

He tells the story of his own traumatic school experiences growing up in rural NSW and how after one particular horrible incident with a teacher, he decided he was not going to become an electrician after all but become the best darn teacher he could be.

He was true to his word and has dedicated his life to education, from teaching in the classroom to creating his neurodiversity-focused business 'Exceptional Learners'. He shares many brilliant insights into how to inspire and empower neuro-divergent students. Also how he helps parents and teachers to understand and provide learning environments which encourage students to thrive not just survive.

He also shares his passion for advocating for neuro-affirming change and improvement within a rigid educational system. And of course, we talk about his glimmers, the little things that bring him joy. It's an episode not to be missed!

Trigger warning- please be aware there is mention of historical abuse within a school setting.

  • The Unremarkable Miracle, Healing From Auto-Immune Disease, A Chat With Veronica Morris.
    2024/03/03

Join us for chat with Veronica Morris. Veronica was once told that she would be in a wheelchair by the time she was 30 - at that point, in her early 20s, she had been diagnosed with a rare and incurable auto-immune disease that affected her joints and spine. She spent most of her time in constant pain, regularly finding it extremely difficult to move even a short distance and she was confined to bed. In the better times, she battled through the pain, trying to conceal the fact that she had a serious problem, desperate to be normal and just like everybody else. After a slow and painful 10 years, and frustrated with the conventional approach to her problem, which had started to irretrievably damage her liver, she decided to take control. She began to research her disease, learning about nutrition, physical therapy, meditation and other mind-body techniques. Through the lifestyle changes she made and the professional help that she sought, her body responded and healed itself. Today, 19 years on, she is still in remission and along with owning her own business, she is the mum of two young adults, and a small but very loud dog.

Hailing from County Tyrone in Northern Ireland Veronica lives an incredibly interesting and busy life. Running her own consultancy business helping not-for-profit organisations, being a Ted X speaker, breaking glass ceilings at every turn with her impressive resume, all while finding time to write her book 'The Unremarkable Miracle' in order to help other people going through similar health setbacks. Veronica has so much wisdom to share and this episode is well worth a listen.

  • The 'Evolution of Everything' and Finding the Glimmers With Guest Michael Wren.
    2023/07/26

*Trigger Warning* Confronting topics of serious mental health issues and suicide are discussed in this episode. We are not medical professionals and urge our listeners who are concerned about their mental health to contact their GP or talk to a trusted person in their life.

Linda chats to author Michael Wren about his fantastic metaphysical fiction novel 'The Evolution of Everything", his life as an engineer, the effect on the mental health of working in the construction industry, his journey to becoming an author, life, love and of course his glimmers.

Michael has led an interesting life. in his own words...

'I’ve been on quite a journey. Born in the Kimberly Mountains of Western Australia. Weaned on mum and dad's stories of remote Aboriginal communities, patrolling Papua New Guinea, granddads butcher shop, Catholics and Druids and those that didn’t come home from war. Then the roller coaster of my own youthful adventures, trekking and sometimes working around the world. I’ve lived in dozens of places, from one-pub villages to mega-cities, finally settling in Brisbane.

Even then I worked away a lot. They call it ‘Fly-In-Fly-Out.’ I call it toxic. But I still did it. In the stress and loneliness of a donga, thousands of kilometres from my wife and kids, I started writing. I wanted to make sense of it all. I wanted to lay it out so I could understand what this is.
