概要

Welcome to our Cabinet of Curiosities! It contains episodes about an eclectic array of artifacts related to the history of higher education in Fredonia, New York, released every Sunday throughout our bicentennial year. This podcast does not contain a traditional narrative history of SUNY Fredonia. Instead, it offers glimpses into various moments in the past, as revealed by individual documents, photographs, and objects in Fredonia’s archive and museum collections. The artifacts in our Cabinet of Curiosities examine Fredonia’s history as a place of higher education through the eyes of its students, past and present, and provide an exploration of student experience across two hundred years.

This podcast is the result of research by Fredonia’s students about Fredonia’s students. From their initial curiosity about one object from SUNY Fredonia’s university archives, a deep dive is then taken to explore the broader historical context of what life was like for students at various points in Fredonia’s history as it develops from the Fredonia Academy to the Fredonia Normal School to its place in the SUNY system.

Throughout its 200 years, Fredonia has touched the lives of many students. From lifelong friends made in dorm rooms and classrooms to the skills learned here that carry them far in life, Fredonia’s students have let their educations and their curiosity fuel them as they make their own impact on the world.
