  • You Do Not Need A Better Plan. You Need A Destination.
    2026/09/15

Most advisors know they are supposed to have a vision, and almost nobody does the work, because vision feels important without ever feeling urgent. In this solo episode Nick Davies takes that head on and hands you the framework he uses with coaching clients: pick a date exactly three years out, down to the actual day, then write the story of what that single day looks like in enough detail that you can feel it. What time you wake up, whether it is light outside, the house you are in, how the morning with your family goes, and only then what the business looks like. Nick explains why the biggest mistake is starting from what you think you can realistically reach, because that ceiling quietly becomes your plan, and why you instead start with what you want most and work backward into a year, a quarter, a week, and a day. He uses a simple travel analogy to show the cost of a vague destination: two people can both head for California and still end up hundreds of miles apart. He also shows how the vision doubles as a filter, sharing the moment a client named a new staff hire as the top priority when the stated goal for the year was new client revenue. And he makes the case that this is not only a business exercise but a life one, with a quiet reminder from his own morning that the point of building a seven figure practice is to actually live inside the day you designed. If you have been treating vision as soft work, this one reframes it as the first real piece of planning you do.

    2026/08/18

Derek Notman shares his unconventional journey from archaeology student to top-producing financial advisor to fintech entrepreneur. After becoming a top 5% producer at New York Life, Derek made the bold transition to a fee-based AUM model—watching his income drop by half before rebuilding. He reveals his unique carbon-copy referral system that generated warm leads consistently, why he ditched the suit and tie to connect with rural clients, and how personal vision boards transformed his practice. • The Fastest Way to Create More Capacity
    2026/08/11

Creating leverage doesn’t begin with handing off every major responsibility in your business. It starts with changing your default response when work needs to get done. In this episode, Nick explains why business owners often take tasks back after a bad hiring or delegation experience—and how that habit keeps both the owner and the team stuck. He shares a practical way to use existing meetings as working sessions, turning real tasks into coaching opportunities while making follow-through far more likely. The goal isn’t to give up control overnight. It’s to build trust, capability, and capacity one small handoff at a time so your business can serve clients at a higher level without everything depending on you.

    Chapters:

    • (00:00:00) - Why creating leverage can feel risky
    • (00:00:45) - Moving past a bad hiring experience
    • (00:01:15) - Making someone else the first option
    • (00:01:48) - Stop taking delegated work back
    • (00:02:08) - Why willpower and to-do lists fall short

  • The Specificity Test for Getting Better Introductions
    2026/08/04

Most advisors don't have a referral problem. They have a clarity and process problem. In this episode, Nick breaks down why favorable introductions can't depend on you being at your best in one great client meeting and why they have to live inside a repeatable system your whole team can run. He walks through the beliefs that quietly hold advisors back from asking, including forgetting just how much value you actually deliver, and shares how to anchor the conversation with your top clients so it deepens the relationship instead of feeling like a pitch. You'll hear how to build the ask into your meeting prep and agendas, how to use the top 10% conversation to invite honest feedback that makes your practice better, and how to frame the introduction request so it comes from a place of service. If you know you add real value but the right people aren't finding you, this episode gives you the framework to fix it.

  • Availability Doesn't Equal Better Service
    2026/07/28

Nick Davies challenges one of the most common beliefs in the advisory world: that being available to your clients around the clock is great service. In reality, it trains clients to undervalue your time and keeps you stuck reacting instead of planning. Nick explains what clients actually want when they call asking for you, why front end systems make you look more valuable rather than less, and how to design a week that protects your energy for the work only you can do. He shares why advisors who stop working Fridays almost always see their business leap forward, how capping yourself at ten meetings a week forces better decisions about which meetings actually matter, and the simple rule that changes everything: if it is not in the calendar, it does not exist. If you have built a successful practice but still feel like you are sprinting to keep up, this episode walks you through zooming out, resetting your standards, and designing the week you want so you can grow the business without sacrificing your family or your health.

    Chapters:

    • (00:00:00) - Why Being Available 24/7 Is Not Good Client Service
    • (00:01:07) - What Clients Actually Want When They Ask for You
    • (00:02:18) - Front End Systems That Make Clients Value You More
