Just after the one-year anniversary of Rebecca Mitchell’s son Jonathan’s stillbirth, she came across a baby’s obituary in the Dallas newspaper and felt compelled to send the grieving mother a sympathy card. That simple act sparked a powerful friendship rooted in shared sorrow. Within weeks, they connected with two other mothers who had also experienced the unimaginable loss of a baby.
What began as a few phone calls, emails, and meetups soon blossomed into something more — a community of healing. That’s when M.E.N.D. (Mommies Enduring Neonatal Death) was born.
In this episode, Rebecca shares her powerful journey through grief, how M.E.N.D. came to life, and the incredible impact it has made over the past 24 years. With chapters across the country, M.E.N.D. now offers monthly support groups, remembrance ceremonies, and education for healthcare providers on compassionate care for families after loss.
Rebecca also shares how you can start a M.E.N.D. chapter in your own community — because no one should have to grieve alone.
To all who find themselves needing M.E.N.D., her message is clear: You are not alone. You are deeply loved, and you are surrounded by women who truly understand.
