  • I Feel Like a Single Parent Again
    2026/08/25

Football season is officially here—and with it comes practices, scrimmages, games, school schedules, homework, dinner, bedtime, and a whole lot of doing things without your coach beside you.

And sometimes, you just feel like a single parent.

In this episode of Fourth Quarter Marriage, we’re talking honestly about what it feels like to carry more during football season—and the resentment that can creep in when “I’m overwhelmed” starts turning into “I’m doing everything myself.”

    But we’re not staying there.

Because football season can be hard without being bad. We can miss our husbands and still be proud of them. We can need more support without keeping score. We can acknowledge the loneliness without letting it define our marriage.

We’ll talk about finding the good in the middle of the crazy, inviting God into the gaps our husbands can’t always fill, and one simple marriage playbook that can help you stay connected when time is in short supply.

Because feeling like a single parent doesn’t mean you have to become a single-parent marriage.

We’re carrying more right now—but we’re still on the same team.

  • Retreat Recap: When the Best Laid Plans Spoil
    2026/08/16
Not Perfect, Still Worth It | Fourth Quarter Marriage

Remember that football retreat we talked about? We made the plan, prepared our family, talked through communication, and hoped we had figured out how to make those two nights apart successful.

Now it’s time for the post-game debrief.

Because the truth is… the retreat wasn’t perfect.

Some things worked really well. Some things didn’t. There were moments that were harder than we expected, and moments that reminded us why preparation, communication, faith, and teamwork matter so much in a football family.

In this episode of Fourth Quarter Marriage, we’re looking back at our football retreat and asking the questions that really matter: What worked? What didn’t? What surprised us? What would we do differently next time? And perhaps most importantly, what did God teach us when our plans didn’t go exactly as planned?

We’re talking honestly about marriage, parenting, football, disappointment, expectations, and what it looks like to adjust the play instead of assuming the whole game is lost.

Because marriage—especially during football season—isn’t about executing every play perfectly. It’s about learning from the plays that didn’t work, encouraging each other when someone fumbles, and remembering that we’re on the same team.

In this episode, we talk about:
    • What actually worked during our football retreat
    • The parts that were harder than we expected
    • What we would change if we could run the retreat again
    • How unmet expectations can affect marriage and family
    • What God can teach us when our carefully made plans fall apart
    • Our practical Post-Game Debrief for couples navigating hard seasons together

Scripture: Proverbs 16:9 — “In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.”

If you’re a coaching wife, football family, or simply a couple trying to navigate a demanding season of life together, this episode is a reminder that a hard experience doesn’t mean you failed. Sometimes you just need to watch the film, learn from it, and run the next play differently.

Because the goal isn't a perfect marriage.

It’s a marriage that keeps choosing each other.

  • Calling a Timeout- Our Weekend at FCA Coaches Timeout
    2026/08/11

What happens when you call a timeout before the season gets hard?

In this episode of Fourth Quarter Marriage, we’re talking about our recent weekend at FCA Coaches Timeout in Keystone—a weekend designed specifically for coaching couples to step away from the noise, reconnect with each other, and intentionally invest in their marriage and their faith.

We share some of the things that stood out to us from the weekend, including wisdom from Tank and Sarah Ackerman of Live the Life Church, and the practical strategies they shared for communication, connection, and building a stronger marriage.

But more than anything, this weekend reminded us that our marriage needs intentional preparation, too. We spend so much time preparing for football season—practice, schedules, players, game plans—but what are we doing to prepare our marriage for the demands of the season?

This episode is a reminder that a timeout isn't a sign that something is wrong. Sometimes, it's exactly what you need to make sure you're still playing on the same team.

Because the goal isn't just to survive football season together. It's to come out of it with a stronger marriage.

  • Alone But Not Abandoned
    2026/08/01

Episode 4: Alone But Not Abandoned

Every football season begins with a goodbye.

For coaching families, a simple two-night retreat can feel like the unofficial start of the season. While coaches are building team culture and preparing for the months ahead, the families at home are adjusting to quiet evenings, solo parenting, and the reality that football is here again.

In this episode of Fourth Quarter Marriage, we're talking about the first goodbye of the season—the one that often brings excitement, loneliness, pride, and uncertainty all at the same time. We share what makes these few days so difficult, how we've learned to prepare our hearts and our home, and the encouragement we've found in God's constant presence, even when we're apart.

Whether you're a coach, a coaching spouse, or navigating a season where your family is making sacrifices for a bigger calling, this conversation is a reminder that you are never walking through it alone.

    In this episode, we discuss:

    • Why coaching retreats matter—for coaches and their families
    • The emotional reality of solo parenting and limited communication
    • Finding peace in the quiet moments when loneliness creeps in
    • How Scripture reminds us that God never leaves us
    • Practical ways to stay connected and strengthen your marriage, even from a distance

Because every football season may begin with a goodbye—but it doesn't have to weaken your marriage. Sometimes, it's where God begins to strengthen it.

  • No One Talks About Summer
    2026/07/12
Episode 2: No One Talks About Summer

Everyone talks about Friday night lights.

    No one talks about July.

Before the first kickoff, before the packed stadiums, and long before the touchdowns, football season has already begun. For coaching families, summer isn't an offseason—it's the quiet beginning of another season of sacrifice, routines, and choosing each other.

In this episode, we're pulling back the curtain on the part of coaching life that often goes unseen. We celebrate the excitement of a new season, the relationships built during camps and workouts, and the moments that make football so meaningful. But we also have an honest conversation about the challenges of navigating a summer that looks different than everyone else's—missed evenings, shifting expectations, and learning to embrace the season you're actually in.

Anchored in Ecclesiastes 3:1, we explore what it means to trust that every season has a purpose and how God can meet us in the middle of an unconventional summer.

In this week's Marriage Playbook, we're sharing one practical way to protect your marriage and family before football season is in full swing.

Whether you're a coach, coach's spouse, or simply walking through a busy season of life, we hope this episode reminds you that even when life doesn't look the way you imagined, there is still joy to be found in the moments you choose to protect.

    Scripture: Ecclesiastes 3:1
Marriage Playbook: Protect one weekly rhythm that belongs to your marriage or family—and don't let football take it away.

At Fourth Quarter Marriage, we believe football is a season, but marriage is for a lifetime. Because two are better than one.
    Ecclesiastes 4:9-10

  • Why We Keep Choosing Football
    2026/07/06
Episode 1: Why We Keep Choosing Football

Friday night lights are exciting—but they only tell a small part of the story.

In our very first episode, we're sharing why, after years of long hours, missed dinners, late nights, and countless sacrifices, we still choose football.

It's not because the game is easy. It's because of the people.

We talk about the community that football creates, the challenge of balancing marriage and the demands of coaching, and why we've learned that a strong marriage doesn't happen by accident—it happens on purpose.

In this episode, we also introduce our Four Quarter Game Plan:

    🏈 1st Quarter: Our why for football—community.

2nd Quarter: The hardest part—the time commitment.

📖 3rd Quarter: Why Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 has become the foundation of our marriage and this podcast.

❤️ 4th Quarter: Our Marriage Playbook Tip: The 15-Minute Reset—a simple habit that's helped us reconnect even during the busiest football seasons.

Whether you're a coach, a coach's spouse, a sports family, or simply trying to build a stronger marriage, we're so glad you're here.

Because football may be what brings us together...
but building Christ-centered marriages is why we're here.
