Joe Saward lays out what actually happened: Michael Andretti's attempt to buy an existing team, the FIA's approval of a new entry over the objections of Formula One's commercial rights holder, and a legal fight from a rejected rival bidder that eventually exposed bias in the process.

Dick brings the American perspective on the Andretti name and its limits outside the U.S.

Along the way, they cover a U.S. government investigation that ultimately helped resolve the standoff, and how a private equity-backed Cadillac entry ended up succeeding where the Andretti name alone could not. Whether this was a one-off or a preview of how F1 will handle the next disruptor is where they leave it.

Max Verstappen finally won the Singapore Grand Prix, from pole, at the one race that had always gotten away from him. Charles Leclerc finished second. Kimi Antonelli finished third. For long stretches, that was about all there was to say.

So Dick, Joe Saward, and Sabrina spend this race review on a harder question: can a race be dull and still be Formula 1? Joe has covered decades of races where nothing happened. Dick knows what a real pass takes from behind the wheel. Sabrina keeps coming back to the newer fan who set an early alarm, or flew halfway around the world, and got this one. And then there is the sprint, which gave us more drama on Saturday than Sunday did. Joe explains exactly why it exists. Whether that is a good enough reason is left wide open.

Lewis Hamilton started third and finished sixth. The McLaren teammates collided in the sprint, and Joe has a clear read on the fallout, including what it means for Oscar Piastri. Kimi Antonelli can mathematically clinch the championship at COTA. Mathematically.

Joe has also been reading the teams’ financial returns, and the numbers are not what most fans would guess, including which team gets the most for its money. And Formula 1 is heading back to Africa, to Rwanda, in the early 2030s. Joe explains who is helping pay for it, and why.

Plus, listener Rao asked a question about a team name that turned out to be bigger than it sounds. It is getting its own conversation.

He talks about the British-dominated media landscape, the danger of media training that just teaches drivers what not to say, and a story about a driver he met at thirteen that shaped a decades-long relationship.

Dick brings the parent's perspective, and the three of them get into where trust actually breaks down, and how hard it is to rebuild once it does.
