The First Kings Biblical Exposition series you are now listening to consists of twenty-two chapters and is divided into four volumes. This first volume covers First Kings chapters one through seven. The content is organized by topic and divided into two sections: Biblical Exposition and Sermon. Why did Solomon, who received great wisdom from God, spend more time building his own palace than the Temple? Through David’s old age and Adonijah’s fall, and Solomon’s accession and the building of the Temple, 1 Kings chapters 1–7 show that the glory of man fades, but the faith that fears God endures forever. This book reveals the gospel of the water and the Spirit contained in the Temple and its furnishings. Jesus took the sins of the world upon Himself through the baptism He received from John the Baptist, was judged and died on the Cross, and rose again to complete salvation. Do not rely on your own wisdom and your own kingdom. Use the wisdom, wealth, and time you have received for the gospel and for souls, and serve Jesus Christ as the King of your heart, building the house of God. ● Scripture quotations used in this book are from the ‘New King James Version (NKJV)’, ‘American Standard Version (ASV)’. ● This audiobook is an original human creation based on the sermons of Rev. Paul C. Jong. Dear readers, Through this book I wish to share with you the Word of 1 Kings, chapters 1 through 7. These words record the history that runs from David’s old age and Solomon’s accession, through the ordering of the kingdom and its wisdom, to the building of the Temple and the completion of its furnishings. Outwardly it looks like a story of kingship and national prosperity, of building and administration; but within it, how imperfect man’s righteousness is, and the way of salvation God has established for sinners, are plainly revealed.

In the Hebrew Bible, First Kings originally formed one book together with Second Kings, and its Hebrew name was Melakim (מְלָכִים), meaning “Kings.” Later, when the Greek Septuagint (LXX) divided it into two books, the names we know today—First Kings and Second Kings—took their place, and the title carries the meaning of a historical book that records in chronological order the reigns of the kings of Israel and Judah.

1 Kings chapter 1 records the process in which, when David had grown old and could no longer properly exercise his kingship, Adonijah tried to become king on his own, but Solomon was anointed and established as the king of Israel according to David’s command.
