काचित् वृद्धा आसीत् यस्याः केऽपि बान्धवाः न आसन् । सा एकाकिनी वसति स्म । कदाचित् तस्याः दृष्टिशक्तिः क्षीणा अभवत् । अल्पेन एव काले सा किमपि द्रष्टुम् अशक्ता अभवत् । तां द्रष्टुम् आगतः चिकित्सकः दुष्टस्वभावकः आसीत् । सा वृद्धायाः वञ्चनां कर्तुम् अचिन्तयत् । किन्तु एषा वृद्धा अपि चतुरा आसीत् । सः चिकित्सकः वृद्धायाः चातुर्येण न्यायालये दण्डनम् अपि प्राप्तवान् ।

There was an old woman who had no relatives and lived alone. One day her eyesight weakened, and soon she became unable to see at all. A physician came to examine her, but he was of wicked nature and planned to deceive her. However, the old woman was clever too. By her wit, the physician was punished in court.

कदाचित् कश्चन छात्रः कक्ष्यायां निद्रां कुर्वन् आसीत् । शिक्षकः यद्यपि तत् न लक्षितवान् तथापि पार्श्वस्थः छात्रः उत्थाय 'एषः निद्रां कुर्वन् अस्ति' इति शिक्षकम् अवदत् । तदा कुपितः शिक्षकः निद्रां कुर्वन्तं छात्रम् उत्थाप्य तस्य कपोले चपेटिकां दत्तवान् । कुपितः दण्डितः छात्रः अन्यं छात्रम् उद्दिश्य प्रतिकारं साधयितुम् ऐच्छत् । कक्ष्यायाः अनन्तरं तयोः मध्ये कलहः जातः । तदा कश्चन शिक्षकः आगत्य दण्डितं छात्रम् उपदिशति । ततः आरभ्यः तौ प्रियस्नेहितौ जातौ ।

A student was once sleeping in class. Though the teacher hadn't noticed, another student pointed it out. The teacher became angry, woke the boy, and slapped him. Upset and humiliated, the punished student wanted revenge on the classmate who had reported him. After class, the two got into a fight. A teacher intervened, counselled the punished student, and from that day onward, the two became close friends.

संस्कृतभाषायाः सुप्रसिद्धः शास्त्रज्ञः, कविः अप्पय्यदीक्षितः महान् शिवभक्तः आसीत् । कदाचित् स्वस्य शिवभक्तिं परीक्षितुम् इष्टवान् । लोके प्रसिद्धम् अस्ति यत् मनुष्यः उन्मत्तावस्थायां किमपि निगूहितं न शक्नोति । सः वैद्यविद्याम् अपि जानाति स्म अतः सः द्विविधं रसायनं सज्जीकृतवान् । 'कतिचनघण्टानन्तरं द्वितीयं रसायनंं यच्छन्तु येन अहं पुनरपि स्वस्थः भविष्यामि' इति शिष्यान् अवदत् सः । उन्मत्तावस्थायाम् आगतानां वचनानां क्रमशः योजनेन भगवतः शिवस्य प्रशंसापरकाः पञ्चदश श्लोकाः निर्मिताः अभवन् । तेषां श्लोकानां समूहः एव अग्रे उन्मत्तपञ्चदशी अथवा आत्मार्पणस्तुतिः इति नाम्ना प्रसिद्धः अभवत् ।

Appayya Dikshita, the renowned Sanskrit scholar and poet, was a great devotee of Lord Shiva. Once, he wished to test the depth of his own devotion. Knowing that a person reveals their true feelings in a state of madness, he prepared two medicines. Before taking the first, he instructed his disciples to give him the second after a few hours to restore his normal state. During his delirium, he spontaneously uttered verses praising Lord Shiva. These were later compiled into fifteen beautiful hymns, now famous as *Unmatta Panchadashi* or *Atmarpana Stuti*.
