    On June 14, 2024, a dangerous criminal named Joshua Zimmerman escaped from DeSoto County Courthouse in Hernando Mississippi. It was evident from the start of the search for Zimmerman, though, that law enforcement wanted to find him quickly, due to the danger he posed to the public.

  • Southern Cold Case Files: The Murder of Melvin Brown

    Melvin Brown was an 18 year old Holly Springs High School Senior when his young life was cut short after he was murdered in cold bold, while he was asleep in a friends car outside a house his friend had ran in to. As Marshall County Sheriff’s Office detectives began to investigate Melvin’s murder, it quickly became apparent Melvin was murdered by a seasoned gangland hitman and the youths murder was connected to the murder of ⁠Devin Hubbard⁠ in September 2015 and the double homicide of ⁠Jamon Moton and William Phillips ⁠in January 2016.

  • Southern Cold Case Files: The Murder of Mark Hooper
    2025/09/26

    Initially, when 54 year old Marshall County native Mark Hooper’s body was found laying lifeless at the side of Union Valley Road in the Byhalia area of Marshall County on the morning of July 1, 2016, it was believed he was a victim of a hit and run. However, as Marshall County Sheriff’s detectives started to search the scene and take a closer look over his badly injured body, a more shocking and sickening picture soon began to emerge. Based on the injuries observed by detectives at the scene, Hooper had been shot in the lower back then seeming dragged down the road under his own vehicle, which tore the skin off his back. MCSO have chased countless leads and looked at several motives, but his killer has never been identified.

  • Southern Cold Case Files: The Double Homicide of Jamon Moton and William Phillips, the second gangland slaying in Marshall County
    2025/09/26

    On a cold January night in 2016, a young couple who were driving along a backroad in Marshall County Mississippi as they headed home after visiting family members came across a macabre sight. Two men had been shot to death and dumped on the side of a gravel road, in a remote part of the rural Mississippi County. The young couple quickly raised the alarm, and Marshall County Sheriff’s Deputies arrived on scene shortly after. What was to follow though, led the investigators on a journey that seemed to have no end and very little answers. But one thing was acutely apparent, the double homicide had bone chilling similarities to the murder of ⁠Devin Hubbard⁠, less than a year before.

  • Southern Cold Case Files: Murder of Devin Hubbard - The first in a series of gangland slayings in rural Mississippi

    When Marshall County Sheriff’s Detectives started to investigate the homicide of Devin Hubbard on the evening of September 1, 2015, they never envisaged where it would lead them. But within the space of 13 months, MCSO would have three more murders that was connected in someway to Devin’s murder. The media would come to dub the suspect the left eye killer, as all the victims would be shot close to or in their left eye. The ages of the victims would range from as young as 18 to as old as 34 years old, and they all seemed to be part of some type of gangland slayings in Marshall County.

  • Southern Cold Case Files: The Murder of Damien 'Big D' Jeffries

    During the early hours of the morning on November 20, 2014, Damien 'Big D' Jeffries was shot to death outside his girlfriends house in a remote area of Marshall County Mississippi. Some hours prior to the murder, Damien was involved in a robbery of a small time local drug dealer, which may have led to Damien's untimely demise. Despite chasing down the list of possible suspects that could have killed Damien, Marshall County Sheriff's Office have never been able to narrow down who killed him.

    The Hernando Houdini is a brand new show from True Crime Investigations that takes a deep dive into the escae of dangerous career criminal Joshua Zimmerman from the DeSoto County Courthouse in Hernando Mississippi on June 14, 2024, after he exploiting a security flaw. What was to follow was a 67 day nationwide manhunt, which culminated in a 15 hour standoff after Zimmerman fled into the attic space of a seafood restaurant in Chicago, when the Chicago SWAT team and United States Marshal's came to arrest him.
