  • Is Your Hair Routine Helping or Hurting You? The 10 Hair Commandments You Need to Know
    2025/09/16

Your hair routine could make or break your strands—literally! In this episode of Strands and Story, I, Monique Ingram, founder of Go Sleek, reveal the 10 Hair Commandments that every woman needs to know to keep her hair healthy, strong, and thriving.

    The 10 Hair Commandments

    1. Use clarifying shampoo regularly.Cleanse your scalp and hair thoroughly instead of relying solely on co-washing to avoid buildup and scalp issues.

    2. Limit heat styling.Keep heat use to a minimum—once a week for frequent stylers or once a month if possible to prevent damage.

    3. Protect your edges.Avoid using glue on edges to prevent permanent damage. Choose glueless wigs or edge-friendly styling options.

    4. Be cautious with bleaching and dyeing.Limit bleaching and avoid dyeing hair that’s already been dyed black to minimize damage.

    5. Trim your hair regularly.Schedule trims every 6–10 weeks to maintain healthy ends and promote length retention.

    6. Cover your hair at night.Use satin or silk wraps, bonnets, or rollers to protect your hair and prevent breakage while sleeping.

    7. Choose styles wisely.Avoid following every trendy hairstyle. Pick styles that work for your hair type, texture, and lifestyle.

    8. Focus on your nutrition.Eat a balanced diet and drink plenty of water to support hair growth and overall health.

    9. Be patient with your hair.Healthy hair takes time and consistency. Embrace the process and trust it.

    10. Prioritize hair health over aesthetics.Focus on maintaining strong, healthy hair rather than chasing styles that can cause long-term damage. Are you unknowingly committing hair sins that lead to breakage, dryness, or even hair loss?

I’ll share the dos and don’ts of hair care, the mistakes that could be sabotaging your hair growth, and how to create a routine that works for you.Hair is more than just beauty—it’s a story.

  • Are Clients Enabling Unprofessionalism In The Hair Industry? Hairstylist vs Clients part 2
    2025/09/12

Are braiders held to a different standard than licensed hair stylists? In this candid discussion, we explore the differences between licensed cosmetologists and unlicensed braiders when it comes to services and client expectations.

📝 From washing and prep work to pricing and salon policies, we break down why clients sometimes accept strict rules from popular braiders that they wouldn’t tolerate in a salon, and how licensed professionals feel about it. The conversation covers everything from hair washing, detangling, and late fees to the impact of cosmetology training (or lack thereof) on service quality.

If you’ve ever wondered why some stylists require you to come with your hair pre-washed or why a salon experience can be so different, this video offers insight from both sides of the beauty industry. We also dive into client behavior: Do customers bring a double standard when dealing with home-based braiders versus salon stylists?

💇🏾‍♀️ You’ll hear about the professionalism gap and mutual frustrations – licensed stylists vent about “IG braiders” with long rule lists, while braiders share their reasoning for those policies.

Whether you’re a licensed pro, a self-taught braider, or a client who loves protective styles, this conversation will resonate. Join us as we bridge the understanding between these worlds and shine a light on how we can all expect (and deliver) better service and respect. If you enjoyed this discussion and found it insightful, please give the video a thumbs up and subscribe for more honest talks about the beauty industry!
