In a disaster, resources are finite. You can’t save everyone. So, we design systems—triage algorithms—to make the choice for us. They calculate a person's value based on their skills, their age, their economic output. It's an attempt at perfect, unbiased optimization. Cold, clean, and brutally efficient.
But I've always been fascinated by the variables that break the model. What happens when a human operator, faced with that perfect logic, decides the math is simply wrong? What happens when empathy becomes a wrench in the gears of the system?
That’s the thought experiment we’re exploring in a story called Route Recalculated.
