Joey Logano’s week has been all about high-stakes racing and living up to his reputation as one of NASCAR’s most productive playoff performers. With the pressure mounting at World Wide Technology Raceway—known to most as Gateway—Logano was a central figure going into Sunday’s Cup Series Playoff race. According to News 5 WCYB, no active driver has more playoff wins since NASCAR moved to elimination rounds, and of his 37 victories, 15 have come in playoff races, including three during his run to the 2024 championship.
After a disappointing 20th-place finish at Darlington to start the playoffs, Logano made it clear Gateway was make-or-break territory. The defending champion told Pro Football Network that his team thrives under pressure, especially on flat tracks like Gateway, where Penske cars typically shine. He confidently predicted a strong performance, banking on pit strategy and the Mustang team’s speed.
Logano came through, finishing fifth in the Enjoy Illinois 300, and maintained his streak of top-five finishes at Gateway, as confirmed by NBC Sports. He said after the race he was proud of the team and their race execution, particularly in the pit cycles. Although he lost ground on the final restart, he kept his composure, saying, “I had a chance but lost control on the restart to the 11. I managed to keep up with him and thought we might cycle ahead, but we couldn’t get in front, and then I struggled on the final restart, losing balance. Overall, I’m proud of the team; they executed well in the first two races on pit road. Paul called an excellent race today, putting us in position to contend for the win. We just need to be a bit quicker.” His Gateway success continued—his average finish at this track remains among the best in the Cup, reinforcing his reputation for excelling on one-mile flats.
Although the win eluded him, CBS Sports confirms the fifth-place result keeps Logano well in the playoff hunt heading to next week’s cutoff race at Bristol. He now sits eleventh in the standings—above the Round of 12 cutline. That’s a turnaround from 2023, when Logano suffered a shock first-round exit, but the focus now stays on another potential championship run.
Beyond the racetrack, Logano gave some media insight into motocross star Haiden Deegan’s big move to 450s, appearing on NBC Sports to share his perspective and transition expertise.
Business-wise, Logano remains tight-lipped. There have been no major public endorsements, partnerships, or off-track controversies in the past week, and his social media has been focused on race prep and team appreciation.
If you’re tracking Joey Logano’s journey to greatness, keep watching as the playoffs intensify—because as history shows, when the pressure’s on, Joey almost always delivers fireworks.
