Shutdowns, sensory overload, emotional overwhelm, and substance-based coping are among the most misunderstood experiences in mental health. For decades, they have been diagnosed as psychiatric disorders or dismissed as personality flaws. In most cases, they are neither. They are the predictable responses of a nervous system that learned to protect itself under conditions it was never wired to handle. In You Make Sense, Dr. Sabra E. Lunday brings together neuroscience, functional brain mapping, and decades of clinical work with neurodivergent and trauma-shaped adults to explain what is actually happening inside the body when these responses take over. Using the NeurocodeX brain mapping system, which records and visualizes the brain’s electrical activity, and the Neuro
Coach training model, she shows how these neural patterns can be measured, understood, and supported, and how the brain builds its survival strategies from prenatal development forward. Grounded in peer-reviewed research and illustrated with detailed patient histories, You Make Sense offers neurodivergent and trauma-shaped adults a framework for understanding their own nervous system built on biology rather than blame.
