*An Instant New York Times Best Seller!*

This program is read by the author.

A memoir of love and loss, of being in the right place at the right time, and of the mysterious ways a beloved pet can bring people together, from CBS Sunday Morning News correspondent and multi-Emmy-Award-winning Martha Teichner.

There are true fairy tales. Stories that exist because impossible-to-explain coincidences change everything. Except in real life, not all of them have conventional, happily-ever-after endings. When Harry Met Minnie is that kind of fairy tale, with the vibrant, romantic New York City backdrop of its namesake, the movie When Harry Met Sally, and the bittersweet wisdom of Tuesdays with Morrie.

There’s a special camaraderie among early-morning dog walkers. Gathering at dog runs in the park, or strolling through the farmer's market at Union Square before the bustling crowd appears, fellow pet owners become familiar - as do the personalities of their beloved animals. In this special space and time, a chance encounter with an old acquaintance changed Martha Teichner’s world. As fate would have it, her friend knew someone who was dying of cancer, from exposure to toxins after 9/11, and desperate to find a home for her dog, Harry. He was a Bull Terrier- the same breed as Martha’s dear Minnie. Would Martha consider giving Harry a safe, loving new home?

In short order, boy dog meets girl dog, the fairy tale part of this story. But there is so much more to this book. After Martha agrees to meet Harry and his owner Carol, what begins as a transaction involving a dog becomes a deep and meaningful friendship between two women with complicated lives and a love of Bull Terriers in common. Through the heartbreak and grief of Carol’s illness, the bond that develops changed Martha’s life, Carol’s life, Minnie’s life, Harry’s life. As it changed Carol’s death as well.

In this rich and touching narrative, Martha considers the ways our stories are shaped by the people we meet, and the profound love we can find by opening our hearts to unexpected encounters.

One of a total of 5 books that I couldn't put down

There aren't many books that earn the spot of
"can't put down", but this is one. I have had the privilege of being able to enjoy books my entire life. It's a treasure, especially the Audible version with Martha Teichner's own voice. She had to be the one to tell her story, and Carol's and Harry's.
Thank you, Martha for sharing part of you with me.

very worthwhile

a touching tribute to humanity, friendship, fate, and a very misunderstood breed of dog. recommended for anyone else who has loved a bull terrier, or met a dear friend unexpectedly. PS: I would also love to listen to more books read by Martha Teichner.

Such a Delight!

I am a huge fan of the author, having watched her for many years on Sunday Morning. I lost 2 of my precious babies 2 years ago. I mostly adopt from rescue groups. I have had 8 dogs in my life and as I grow older it becomes even more difficult to say goodbye. The story of Harry and Minnie touched my heart, and my soul. you see, only a true dog lover knows the love, comfort, joy and at some point the sorrow of having this special being in your life. I too fell in love with Harry and Minnie. I so admire Martha for being a mommy to Harry. Many would have said no. I always admired Martha's ability to tell a really good story on television. now I admire her for being a really good person.

Lovely, heartfelt, sad

I love the author's narration of this deeply personal book. And tho it covers a lot of ground from life in NYC, to her work around the world as a journalist, to a bit of her childhood and parents, it's mostly about friendship, dogs, and loss. Engaging, well written, and hopefully not her last book.

To bring with, I’m a fan of CBS Sunday Morning.

Martha reading her book was perfection. Only she could have brought it to life the way she did. As a dog lover and owner, I’ve had my share of lives and losses. This book was more than a book about two dogs. It was humanity and friendship at its best. Thank you Martha for a most heartwarming and joyful story.

Love, Friendship, and Dogs...A Life Story

This is Martha Teichner’s first book and I’m praying it won’t be her last. It is a beautifully written tapestry of love between people and their 4-legged family members and the kind of people who fall into the “friends are the family you choose” category. Nicely done, Martha! :)
