A runaway goat, a fearless six-year-old, and a roomful of empire-builders collide in Simla, where a child’s plainspoken wisdom exposes the blind spots of British bureaucracy. When Tods—idol of bazaar porters and servants—bursts into the Viceregal Lodge in pursuit of his pet, he also wanders into the making of a land bill that will shape thousands of lives. Listening to the marketplace and translating its truths in disarming English, Tods delivers the insight the Council lacks—and changes the law.

Kipling’s razor-edged satire is warm, witty, and wickedly observant, capturing the voices of hill bazaars, officials, and one indomitable child. It’s a brisk, humane portrait of power, policy, and the people caught in between.

Narrated by Matthew Guldner, this performance brings every register to life—from the Legal Member’s fretful conscience to Tods’s fearless candor—balancing humor with heart and giving fresh clarity to a timeless tale.

Perfect for listeners of literary classics, historical satire, and stories of colonial India, Tods’ Amendment is a short, sparkling reminder that policy means nothing without the people it touches. ユーモア・風刺文学・フィクション 古典 短編小説 選集・短編小説 風刺
