Creative work doesn't come with a guarantee. But there is a pattern to who succeeds and who doesn't. And engaging in the consistent practice of its pursuit is the best way forward. Based on the breakthrough Akimbo workshop pioneered by legendary author Seth Godin, The Practice will help you get unstuck and find the courage to make and share creative work. Godin insists that writer's block is a myth, that consistency is far more important than authenticity, and that experiencing the imposter syndrome is a sign that you're a well-adjusted human.

あらすじ・解説
Most people are stuck. Every day we seem to just go through the motions, following our usual routine without ever stopping and thinking why we do what we do, or what we'd rather be doing instead. But sometimes, we have that one day - that Perfect Day - where everything just clicks. We feel great. We are unstoppable. And at the end of it we think, "Why can't every day be like this?"

90% motivational speaker-ese, 10% good ideas
I'm into self-improvement books, but this one was too cheesy, poorly written and over-simplified for my tastes. He makes big promises about how the Perfect Day template will change your life in every way possible (*eyeroll*), says things like "make rules for yourself and stick to them and you'll beat procrastination" as if that's any kind of real solution, and waste a lot of time with inspirational filler words, like life, goals, dreams, aspirations, etc. By part 2 I was audibly making gagging noises every time he overused those words. I was gagging a lot.
But having said all that, here I am at 6:20 in the morning, writing a review for this book. So yes, there's a good idea in there, and if this book could be summed up in one sentence, it would be: Get up early and tackle your one thing.
OK, so this review is not the most important thing in my day. I'm going to go get work done now. I just thought I'd spare the rest of you I whole bunch of wasted time by reading this book.

My lack of structure costs me myself..
This book has helped me realize what I am missing in my life.. For over 15 years I lived a somewhat structured life.- wake up, get ready to go to work, work, come home, help with kids, dinner, family time, sleep.. and of course make my wife happy. After a fall out at work got me transferred, I was lost.. all my hard work seemed worthless, for what? I struggled for over 2 years to figure what my dreams were and what I wanted to do. I knew I didn't want to work for anybody anymore, the industry lacked leadership skills that were required for me to grow. I had a realization one day and became determined to achieve my goal of being self employed. I unexpectedly quit my job like a self absorbed idiot, without discussing with my wife, without savings, without an idea of how to start a business.. I was lost, and taking my family down with me. Floundering in life without structure. Almost two months went by and things got really bad and the only thing I seemed to be hanging onto was hope, but I was alone... My wife told me about The Perfect Day Formula months ago, when I had a job. I thought it wasn't really for me at that time. I had a job and whatever structure, completely not happy with myself though. My wife and I had a very painful talk.. I realized what I had to do. I had to take control of my life. I needed to re-structure and re-build When I began listening to The Perfect Day Formula and taking notes, my days began to have an actual schedule. I'm not really good at this stuff, but I'm trying my best and learning a lot. The book has really good wisdom, not just knowledge. Craig Ballantyne can really make me want to listen, and I have some pretty good ADHD, which I'm working on too. Craig is really to the point, lays out a solid foundation to grow upon and offers online workshops. This isn't the first book I've read on time management, but this book was more like a life changer for me.

Too many examples
I got tired of listening to him tell a story for each little thing. 5 pillars of success, a whole chapter of telling stories for each. I felt like I was listening to someones life story. Every "secret" to success was so simple, oh you have a goal? Break it into small goals! Bam, problem solved. Thanks for that groundbreaking advice Craig. The only thing I got out of it was the idea of creating a daily Not To-Do list.

Too many promises and a sales speech at the end. Fairly disappointed.
I was hoping to get a perfect day formula in the book. The author builds up promises that gives the readers hope to listen on. As I come to the last chapter the author says, “Let’s go” I wait anticipating the perfect day formula. All I get is a pitch to participate in his workshop! I feel like I didn’t get the value expected of the book. Really disappointed!

thinly veiled infomercial
I gave this book two stars as people who are just starting out in their career, are very young, or haven't read widely might get something from this book. for those of you with some experience or more widely read there are far better, more original books. the book is very repetitive, contains little genuine insignt or analysis, no original or unique thought, and becomes a blatant hard sell for the author's coaching and consulting business and events in the last chapters.
