Most of us live in a constant state of fear - of our past, of illness and aging and death, and of losing the things we treasure most. But it doesn't have to be this way, promises Zen master and Buddhist monk Thich Nhat Hanh. Drawing on a lifetime of mindfulness in action, Thich Nhat Hanh shows us how to use the practice of living in the present to acknowledge and embrace our fears, recognize their origins, and render them powerless. The world-renowned Zen teacher guides us through practical exercises for transforming fear into clarity.

In the beginner's mind there are many possibilities, but in the expert's there are few. So begins this most beloved of all American Zen works. Seldom has such a small handful of words provided a teaching as rich as this famous opening line of Shunryu Suzuki's classic. In a single stroke, the simple sentence cuts through the pervasive tendency students have of getting so close to Zen as to completely miss what it's all about. An instant teaching in the first minutes. And that's just the beginning.

Lucidly and beautifully written, Peace Is Every Step contains commentaries, meditations, personal anecdotes, and stories from Nhat Hanh's experiences as a peace activist, teacher, and community leader. It begins where the listener already is - in the kitchen, office, driving a car, walking - and shows how deep meditative presence is available now.

Harry Potter has never even heard of Hogwarts when the letters start dropping on the doormat at number four, Privet Drive. Addressed in green ink on yellowish parchment with a purple seal, they are swiftly confiscated by his grisly aunt and uncle. Then, on Harry's eleventh birthday, a great beetle-eyed giant of a man called Rubeus Hagrid bursts in with some astonishing news: Harry Potter is a wizard, and he has a place at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. An incredible adventure is about to begin!

批評家のレビュー
"The first book to awaken a mainstream readership to the subject of mindfulness - a testimony to the power of Thich Nhat Hanh's elegant and profound teaching." (Jon Kabat-Zinn, author of Full Catastrophe Living)
"Shows us the connection between personal, inner peace and peace on earth." (His Holiness the Dalai Lama)
あらすじ・解説
In this beautifully written book, Buddhist monk and Nobel Peace Prize nominee Thich Nhat Hanh explains how to acquire the skills of mindfulness. Once we have these skills, we can slow our lives down and discover how to live in the moment - even simple acts like washing the dishes or drinking a cup of tea may be transformed into acts of meditation.
Thich Nhat Hanh's gentle anecdotes and practical exercises help us to arrive at greater self-understanding and peacefulness, whether we are beginners or advanced students. Irrespective of our particular religious beliefs, we can begin to reap the immense benefits that meditation has been scientifically proven to offer. We can all learn how to be mindful and experience the miracle of mindfulness for ourselves.

Starts off great...
Starts off great and easy going, easy to follow. As it goes on.. it just goes on... I understand what it’s about and what the message is. But towards the end it just doesn’t seem to be as focused as it was towards the start.

Enjoyed this but not my favourite Mindfulness book
I enjoyed this and think Thich Nhat Hanh is wonderful however i found myself getting a bit bored listening to the last couple hours of this audio book. There are some brilliant gems and inspiring nuggets within but in my opinion the presentation of this book is a bit lacklustre when compared to books like Eckhart Tolle’s The Power Of Now and A New Earth.

Touched the subconscious!
Simply communicated. Yet understood on a deeper level. A fabulous book for the beginner on their spiritual journey. Although a pleasant reminder to those further along their path..of the simplest truths...sometimes forgotten...it's always a wonder being brought back to the foundation of any practice. I find myself..half smiling...often throughout my day as Thich Naht voice resonates in my mind.

Peaceful and reflective
This book has given me some great tips to live by and I've begun doing the one day a week of mindfulness and feel it's benefits already. This isn't my first book by Thich Nhat Hanh and didn't find it as impactful as some of his others. But it's lessons are as important nonetheless. I do find he repeats himself within his books, but I suppose it's to drive the lessons home. Highly recommend if you're interested in mindfulness.

It was okay but not my type
I am into mindfulness, having a positive outlook on life and enjoying the now but for some reason I did not like the delivery of this book. Wasn’t the feel good stuff I was looking for and it may have been too slow or stale for me as well. Hate to give this type of review but I finished the book and didn’t really enjoy it. I really enjoy Eckart Tolle’s books
