The Kybalion, published in 1908 under the mysterious name The Three Initiates, presents itself as a study of Hermetic philosophy: a compact system of principles said to govern mind, matter, motion, causation, polarity, rhythm, and the relationship between the visible and invisible worlds.

At its center stand Seven Hermetic Principles:

  • Mentalism.
  • Correspondence.
  • Vibration.
  • Polarity.
  • Rhythm.
  • Cause and Effect.
  • Gender.

Simple words. Dangerously large implications.

The text asks the student to consider whether reality is fundamentally mental, whether patterns repeat across different levels of existence, whether opposites are merely degrees of the same thing, and whether understanding natural law allows the trained mind to rise above forces that govern the uninitiated.

Though framed in the language of ancient Egyptian and Greek Hermetic wisdom, The Kybalion is a modern esoteric work belonging to the occult revival of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Its precise authorship remains part of its enduring mystery, while its ideas continue to circulate through Hermeticism, New Thought, ceremonial magic, mentalism, occult philosophy, metaphysics, and modern manifestation culture.

For students of Hermes Trismegistus, the Emerald Tablet, alchemy, esoteric philosophy, mystery schools, Rosicrucianism, occult psychology, consciousness, and the hidden laws of nature, this remains one of the most influential gateways into modern Hermetic thought.

The lips of wisdom remain closed—except to the ears of understanding.
