For fans of comic fantasy, British pub humor, and stories where ordinary people face extraordinary nonsense with stubborn determination. Think The League of Gentlemen meets Bottom, if Richie and Eddie inherited an eldritch horror and tried to fix it with curry.
Some reckonings arrive with fire and brimstone.
This one arrives with vindaloo.
Beneath an ordinary pub in Albrighton lurks the Hungry Table—an ancient entity that has survived wars, landlords, Thatcher, disastrous refurbishments, and pub quizzes so dire even the ghosts stopped attending. Unfortunately for the table, Gary has decided it's his problem.
A retired detective with an imaginary alter ego named Sebastian—a man with too many scarves and absolute certainty he was one casting decision away from being Bradley Cooper—Gary approaches supernatural horror the way most people tackle blocked gutters: with confidence, improvisation, and a plan almost guaranteed to make things worse.
Armed with a legendary hogget vindaloo, government grade chilies, and siege level stubbornness, he sets out to confront the Hungry Table. Or befriend it. Or irritate it into submission.
Soon, Kevin the philosophical sheep is questioning the nature of enclosure, a vegan is discovering the limits of conviction at three million Scoville units, a regular is recovering from an impossible cold in his arm, and the eldritch presence beneath the floorboards is beginning to suspect companionship might be more satisfying than terror.
As the vindaloo grows hotter, stranger, and increasingly alive, Gary and the table are drawn into a contest involving curry, loneliness, grief, terrible decisions, and an alarming amount of base gravy.
Warm, funny, bizarre, and unexpectedly heartfelt, The Hungry Table: The Reckoning (With Vindaloo) is a story about community, impossible appetites, and what happens when ordinary people refuse to give up on each other—even when one of them is an ancient supernatural presence under a pub.
