あらすじ・解説

Feel the thunder!

Stryker Company always brings the fight, but when they relieve embittered and embattled Republic marines, they find an enemy unwilling to stand up and face them. Tasked with protecting the Republic's interests on a mining world, the legionnaires face roadside ambushes, double-dealing locals, and constant sabotage.

And the mission isn’t as straightforward as they thought it would be.

As skirmishes escalate into coordinated ambushes and assaults, two squad leaders, Talon and Lankin, are forced to chase after the sparks threatening to ignite the entire populace into a full-blown insurgency. Denied the legionnaires and resources they need to contain the situation, a single platoon fights to complete a mission requiring all of Stryker Company. The outnumbered platoon must work their way from glittering coastal ports, through steamy jungles and dust-covered mines, to find an enemy hidden seamlessly among the indigenous populace.

The cost is high; the sacrifice great…but nothing short of death itself will stop the legionnaires of Stryker Company from completing its objective. In this stand-alone tale of combat, brotherhood, and sacrifice, these legionnaires will learn what it truly means to make the ultimate sacrifices for their friends.

Experience this thrilling story of combat, brotherhood and sacrifice set in the Galaxy’s Edge universe as USAF veteran and retired police officer Josh Hayes teams up with Anspach & Cole. If you’re a fan of Legionnaire you’ll love this military sci-fi thriller.

The best book in this series

The reviews for book 2 in this series were so bad that I skipped book 2 and went right to this book. There is no reason to read book 2, as all the books in this series are stand-a-lone. This was the best book in the series. Very good character development and an interesting plot.

Might be the best book in it's genre right now.

I listen to a ton of audiobooks, most of them in this genre. The story locked me in early and I felt like I was there with the Legion. I've always been a fan of Ray Porter's narration, but this one is truly exceptional. I hope to listen to a lot more books from Josh Hayes, Jason Ansbach, and Nick Cole. Great book. Highly recommended.

"The legion is a calling"

I cried when Ray Porter read the final letter from Chase. His voice was Chase. His narration was excellent. A first for me, had not had the pleasure of listening to his narration until this book. The legion is a calling and these books are becoming my bible.

A genuine Galaxy's Edge novel.

After being slightly disappointed in the conclusion of the Galaxy's Edge series, this book was a pure delight. Well written and you can feel that the authors have either done their research or had military experience. At first I was a little skeptical of the books short runtime but the story flows and is complete. Bonus I placed the main character of this novel in the Galaxy's Edge series before the end of the book.
Also if you can listen to the last chapter and the epilogue without tearing up, you have no soul.

A True Legionnaire Story

If the last book in the series (Iron Wolves) was phoned in by a Point, this one was a true story lived and written by a Legionnaire. I really enjoyed this book in the series and it really was one of the best in the entire Galaxy's Edge series. I just wish it was longer and that the next book would continue on from this book.

Great story and did pretty good narrator

This is another great story in the Galaxy's Edge series. I only deduct one star from the performance because it feels like the narrator oftentimes forces accents that simply do not sound natural

I enjoyed the comet ride.

Being a fan of the Galaxy’s Edge universe, I KNEW this book was going to be a hot comet ride. I LOVED it!
Josh Hayes, along with Jason Anspach and Nick Cole delivered yet again. The story and theme were in lockstep with the entire series. That means there was lots of action, MEANINGFUL tension (not the worn out “let’s drum up meaningless conflict to fill a story”) In Stryker’s War, the tension WAS the story.
There was a technique used I haven’t seen in a long time throughout. It’s not used because it’s difficult as hell to write well. In this story, that technique was used to great effect. (No spoilers)
The release of tension was both heartbreaking and satisfying at the same time. In so many stories, sorrow is contrived. This was NOT that. The end of the story was a natural and organic conclusion.
Normally when I tap into huge story franchises it’s a dice roll. The Galaxy’s Edge has yet to disappoint, and I have read almost all of it.
Josh Hayes’ contribution was a satisfying thrill ride on a rollercoaster that took me through all the emotions, and at the end it felt right. Prepare for your heart to get stretched at the end.
Highly recommend.

This book raises the bar for Galaxies edge

Of the series this book is by far the best so far. It absolutely is worth the listen or read. Listen to it from beginning to end and one weekend!

Average

After the original story with Rechs and Solus etc... This seems very weak, no proper storyline. it is just another story from the military... It lacked substance. maybe it is me, but somehow it was not what I expected.

Moving and exciting

It’s often hard for non military to understand how the bonds of friendship bind way beyond what you might expect in a normal setting, this book gives an idea of that and of the waste incurred in conflict.

Finally got used to Ray Porters narration and it was very good

Too military not enough sci fi

I love the Galaxy Edge series but not this particular novel. This book has a very real US in Iraq / Vietnam feel. Soldiers and corporate security deal with uppity aliens. It definately suffers from a lack of science fiction and I kept hoping that the poor down trodden aliens would KTF and rid their planet of the resource stealing republic. So that makes this book a large failure.

I am sure that ex-service men will be reminded of their tours, but the galaxy will survive ok if this book was lost or forgotten. It is too involved with the minutia of basic soldering to be interesting.
