あらすじ・解説

When Jesus needed help, he went to the Helper. Where do you go?

If Jesus needed help, we all do. Spirit-Filled Jesus explores the role of the Holy Spirit in and through the life of Jesus, revealing aspects of his life that have not been examined before and helping you see how this applies to you. In understanding how Jesus lived his life through the power of the Holy Spirit, you will learn how to:

  • Maintain emotional health even during hardship
  • Redeem your relationships with friends, family, and enemies
  • Be perfected through suffering
  • Forgive others as Jesus forgives you
  • Defeat the demonic with five God-given weapons

Everyone knows the Holy Spirit as the Helper but may not realize he helped Jesus. Jesus resisted temptation, endured suffering, and overcame Satan, all by the power of the Spirit. You can do the same. The Spirit that empowered Jesus also lives in you! God wants us not only to admire the life of Jesus and reflect it in our lives but also to experience the same source of life-giving power that Jesus did.

Scripturally based, speaking straight to the soul.

I loved how Mark references scripture to support his topic. I have no problem listening to this book again.

Great book for spiritual growth of a Christian!

This is a must read for all Christians. It explains the life of Christ and how he always worked with the third member of the Trinity (The Holy Spirit) and what that means for believers today. As a pastor for many years, I recommend this book.

Awesome book!

Easy to listen to and follow along. Mark does a great job of citing the Bible verses for each topic he mentions. I also enjoyed the appendix.

Not what I was hoping for

I’ve long enjoyed listening to Mark Driscoll, but on this one I was disappointed.
Maybe I had unrealistic expectations based on the title and the opening of the book, which seemed to indicate that it would help open up the often neglected area of the Holy Spirit’s work in the lifetime ministry of Jesus, and how we can share in that as believers.
But the book quickly reverts back to very familiar territory and thereafter it reads like a ‘greatest hits’ compendium from what I assume are previous sermons. It tries to cover far too much, and therefore doesn’t really nail any persuasive or fresh messages.
He makes almost no reference to any other authors on this important subject, relying on his own interpretations.
That being said, he remains typically orthodox and evangelical, with some effective use of humour, illustration and oratory flair (more than literary flair, I would say ... the book reads as though he’s giving a sermon, which at least means that it adapts well to audiobook.)
It would be a solid entry-level book for a young or new Christian, and perhaps that is the intended audience. But unfortunately he hasn’t really contributed anything new nor deepened my understanding of this potentially fascinating topic.
