©1988 Elizabeth Moon (P)2010 Audible, Inc.Chapter 2 suddenly had a very weird cut where Paks (the main character) wakes up after being beaten up and potentially raped - yet all she can think of is that she was thrown into prison and how she would be in trouble for disobedience. New character names come up in half a dozen without any or much introduction, and an investigation of what happened starts. During the investigation, the characters completely ignore one of the two main suspects even after he unintentionally says something incriminating and instead carry on in great detail and stretched out dialogues.
I even checked whether the audio book jumped a few chapters (nope), and I hoped this would be just an odd sequence. Unfortunately the whole test of patience continues in chapter 3.
