ストーリー
One of Jane Austen’s most beloved works, Pride and Prejudice, is vividly brought to life by Academy Award nominee Rosamund Pike ( Gone Girl). In her bright and energetic performance of this British classic, she expertly captures Austen’s signature wit and tone. Her attention to detail, her literary background, and her performance in the 2005 feature film version of the novel provide the perfect foundation from which to convey the story of Elizabeth Bennet, her four sisters, and the inimitable Mr. Darcy.

ストーリー
In Shakespeare's most controversial play, the opposing values of justice and mercy must be resolved. Antonio promises money to help his friend Bassanio woo Portia. He borrows the sum needed from the cruel Shylock, but there will be a dreadful penalty if the loan is not repaid. The golden world of Portia's Belmont calls forth some of Shakespeare's most lyrical love poetry. But the dark shadow of Shylock is never far from the heart of this brilliant comedy as it moves toward its courtroom climax.

An inn is a place to rest, a place to talk and share stories, a place to find adventure, or a starting ground for quests and legends. It is in this world, at least. To Erin Solstice, an inn seems like a medieval relic from the past. But here she is, running from Goblins and trying to survive in a world full of monsters and magic. She’d be more excited about all of this if everything wasn’t trying to kill her. But an inn is what she’s found, and so that’s what she becomes; an innkeeper, who serves drinks to heroes and monsters. Mostly monsters. But it’s a living, right?

あらすじ・解説
Pride and Prejudice has delighted generations of readers with its unforgettable cast of characters, carefully choreographed plot, and a hugely entertaining view of the world and its absurdities. With the arrival of eligible young men in their neighbourhood, the lives of Mr and Mrs Bennet and their five daughters are turned inside out and upside down. Pride encounters prejudice, upward-mobility confronts social disdain, and quick-wittedness challenges sagacity, as misconceptions and hasty judgements lead to heartache and scandal, but eventually to true understanding, self-knowledge, and love. In this supremely satisfying story, Jane Austen balances comedy with seriousness, and witty observation with profound insight. If Elizabeth Bennet returns again and again to her letter from Mr Darcy, readers of the novel are drawn even more irresistibly by its captivating wisdom.

Jane Austen Pride and Prejudice
I listened briefly to all the "Pide and Prejudice" audios on our list, before buying this production narrated by Linsey Duncan. Ms Ducan's reading is superb. Each character is given a unique voice and portrayed with such subtlety, that the novel easily flows in currents of reality. Miss Austen's language is preserved and alive. I am a serious reader of Ms Austen and I am totally satisfied with this audio.

excellent reading
Lindsey Duncan, the English actress, does a fine job in this reading. Her Elizabeth is not pert or flirty, but intelligent and witty. You can see why Darcy is so taken with her. Duncan is good with all the women, differentiating their language and intonation. This is the one to listen to!

Excellent Read!
I just finished listening to "Pride and Prejudice." I've read the book before (as well as seen the various TV and movie productions), so I'm already a fan. That being said, this book was a delight to listen to. The narrator does the characters very well, and I appreciate the fact that she is a true British actor. Be prepared to be totally absorbed -- near the end, I couldn't put it down.

Definitely worth it!
Loved the book (of course), and LOVED the narrator. Ms. Duncan does a fabulous job of giving each character a distinct vocal quality, which is very important in this book particularly, as Jane Austen tends to leave off speaker tags on her dialogue. HIGHLY recommended!

Excellent book, excellent narrator
This was actually the first I ever "read" this book, although I had heard a lot about it. I have to say, this is one of the best credits I have spent--the book was great, and is a classic, so I won't spend much time talking about it.
The narrator was very pleasant to listen to, and did a good job of putting the correct emotions into her voice. Indignation, coyness, sarcasm, and humor were all rendered fully. The only issue I had was that once or twice I lost track of who it was speaking. That said, it is unfortunate that Lindsay Duncan has not narrated more books, as I would certainly listen to her again.

First of many
This was my first Audible download, and I was interested to see how a familiar story would appeal in this format. Having seen the film versions, I was unsure whether I would find the unabridged audiobook too long. I needn't have worried. Lindsay Duncan reads very well, and I enjoyed the full story immensely. I looked forward to the next instalment each evening, and will now be ordering more Jane Austen for my next download.

Perfect pitch
Irene Sutcliffe's delivery of Jane A's words conjure up the whole cast and leave me for one, spellbound and full of admiration. I aim to enjoy a new listen every month, but still return to P & P as an old friend, and have now lost count of the number of times I immersed myself in the splendid characterisation. The ease at which she single-handedly creates a group of individuals, proud, petulant, pedantic or brash, makes Jane Austen's most rounded and successful tale, sheer delight.

Lindsay Duncan reads this very well, in a non-intrusive and clear manner.
As for the novel, what needs to be said? This is Jane Austen's best known and arguably most beloved novel and sets the standard for this genre of historic romantic fiction. If this genre is your preference, and you have not read P&P before, enjoy! You are in for a treat.

Adored it all.
Where does Pride and Prejudice rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
One of the best.
What did you like best about this story?
It's a wonderful story and the narration was a joy.
Which character – as performed by Lindsay Duncan – was your favourite?
I thought she differentiated well between all the sisters but her interpretation/reading of Elizabeth was particularly good.

A great novel beautifully narrated
I loved this book even more than previous readings or movies of it. This time the wonderful narration brought it alive so vividly for me. The characters were so individually different but real for the period in which it was set. Elizabeth Bennett was a marvellous character and perfect for Darcy. Highly recommended.

Perfect in every way
One of my favourite books, perfectly narrated. Lindsay Duncan manages the multitude of characters beautifully. Anxious to find a suitable narrator for such a favourite book, I sample listened to all the other narrators of current P&P audio editions, and mostly winced at either the blandness of tone or hysteria of pitch. None compare to this version in my opinion. Sheer bliss.

Great book, great narrator.
I'm so glad that I chose this narration for my favourite novel - I've already listened to it numerous times.
One tiny thing... I can't get used to hearing Lady Catharine's surname being pronounced "de-borg," after decades of knowing it to be pronounced "de-berg" LOL!

An Enjoyable Encounter with a Classic
I greatly enjoyed following the romantic encounters of the Bennett girls, and their associates in this book. It was a very engaging story delightfully expressed in 19th century language and expectations of society.
Jane Austin’s English expression of the period was delightful.
I was keen to read a classic of the period and was more than satisfied with it.
The narration was also excellent but would have liked a slightly greater contrast between the voices of Darcy and Elizabeth.

brilliant novel and beautifully read by lindsay
i fell in love with jane austen in the early 90's after watching the bbc adaptation of pride and prejudice with colin and jennifer
i still watch this from time to time obsessively, for when i watch it once i feel i need to watch it several times in a row to really appreciate and relive the the first time i fell in love with jane austen and this beautiful story
i thank the lord for the advent of audio books
i'm not a reader but i am most certainly a listener
i'd never before listened to an audio book of this novel till very recently and what drew me in was seeing that it was read by the gorgeous and talented lindsay duncan, what a beautiful voice and so deliciously read, i can't wait to hear the next line she reads
thank you lindsay for making this novel even more enchanting to me, i love your work and now i can listen to your gorgeous voice reading my all time favourite novel wherever and whenever i please
